bconley351 Posted October 13, 2014 Author #26 Share Posted October 13, 2014 Thanks for all the input. We will probably be limited to the one day early plan since our traveling companions will still be employed and will be limited as to how much pre-cruise time they can take. We plan on using the two at sea days to recover from any jet lag we may get. We are planning on staying on in Australia post cruise to go diving at the GBR. We plan on hitting the ground running when we get to Sydney.
Alaskanb Posted October 14, 2014 #27 Share Posted October 14, 2014 A big thank-you to Mrs Waldo for seating advice in the opera house. Tickets went on pre-sale today for Madama Butterfly and we snagged row Q seats 44, and 45 at a reasonable price. Think we will be okay there. So excited. cojuqui Posted October 15, 2014 #29 Share Posted October 15, 2014 We arrived in Sydney on the Diamond Princess at 7 a.m. and departed for Ayers Rock on a flight the next morning. We purchased a 24 hour MyMulti Day Pass and used that along with a lot of walking. My husband and did the Bridge Climb in the morning, then walked over to the Opera House and looked around, we then walked thru the Botanic Gardens and took a bus back to the hotel, later we took the bus and walked around the Rocks and then used our Day pass to take the ferry around the Harbour. To finish the day we the night tour at the Sydney Observatory. My mom was with us and while we did the Bridge Climb she visited the Sydney Eye observation deck and then did a behind the scenes tour of the Opera House. We met up with her there and then she continued on with us the rest of the day. My full review of my New Zealand/Australia is linked below. Have a fantastic time. madmacs Posted October 30, 2014 #30 Share Posted October 30, 2014 I have booked tickets for Aida in early May which seems to be outside but near the Opera House. Could one of the cultured Aussies please advise this Brit where the performance might be. Thanks

Thanks Hi madmacs Aida seems to be performing at Fleet Steps, Mrs Macquaries Point which is adjacent to the Royal Botanic Gardens. Not really next to the Opera House but it's walkable depending on where you are travelling from. http://opera.org.au/res/pdfs/eguides/2012/HOSH_Eguide_DU.pdf I hope this link works it has directions on getting to the venue. Another way is to go onto google maps and it will give you directions from where you are staying to Fleet Steps. regards AussieGypsie
madmacs Posted October 30, 2014 #32 Share Posted October 30, 2014 Thank you. We are in Sydney for a few days before going on a cruise in early April. Never been to Australia before and really looking forward to the experience. Our interests are fairly broad - also going to cricket world cup matches earlier in the month. Phil and Doreen If you have the time Sydney also has a HopOn HopOff bus that not only takes you around the main sites but also ventures into Bondi Beach. Of course there is always the option of a ferry trip across the harbour to Manly and it's beautiful beaches. Whatever you decide to do I hope you enjoy your stay.
