MR_T Posted September 13, 2014 Author #26 Share Posted September 13, 2014 The no smoking policy has to be a major plus for me... I was only ready earlier about smoking in a bar/casino on a rccl ship... That would be a definite no no for me! In the year 2014 I can't believe smoking is allowed in any public enclosed place!! MR_T Posted September 13, 2014 Author #27 Share Posted September 13, 2014 Also the dress code is a big plus for me... Having worked for a number of years having to wear a suit & tie 5 days a week every week it's the last thing I'd want to do while on holiday! The fact I can dress casual every night and fit in perfectly suits me just fine! : )

Chitown12562 Posted September 13, 2014 #35 Share Posted September 13, 2014 (edited) I had sailed on NCL before I met my GF, so for here first cruise we did 5 nights on NCL to see if she liked it. She did, so a year later we booked our second cruise together on the NCL Epic. After read about and seeing the bathroom configuration we both said, "Oh no" , and looking for another cruise line to try. This landed us on the Eclipse and in Aqua Class for 7 nights We loved everything about that first Celebrity cruise, so after I started working again (out of work for 3 years) we booked our second Celebrity cruise on the Equinox. 10 nights including Columbia, the Panama Canal, and Costa Rica. Now we've booked our 14 night cruise. We love Blu! The staff is always on the ball and the food gives us lots of variety while not overdoing it with the salt, butter, and heavy cream. I'm a serious cook/baker at home, so I appreciate what is offered in Blu and the surroundings are just right. Small, intimate, huge picture window of the sea going by, and far enough from others to enjoy our time together while close enough to make friends. Love the Parisian Gardens as long as someone who can't stop talking doesn't come in. Love the shower head and nozzles in the cabin. Love molecular bar and the hot glass show. Love how the shows offer variety after the ships own production. There are very few children and any who are there are so well mannered. Like the variety in the buffet, Q-Sine was fun, and Murinos is always enjoyable. Breakfast on my balcony including a memosa and a smoothie or breakfast in Blu? So hard to decide! And love that smoking policy. What would make me switch or try another line. Well I'm starting to think it would be good to have some variety regarding the ship. I need some new venues to check out. The desserts in the buffet seem to have been downgraded since out first cruise. I'm don't expect something overly fancy, but the number of English puddings was far fewer than before. Tudorcruisers Posted September 14, 2014 #36 Share Posted September 14, 2014 we have sailed with RCCL, Princess and Celebrity. celebrity is definitely our favourite as we love the ships, the staff have always been great, the 123Go if available is a great perk. We love that on deck there is no loud music and waiters are there if you need them but not coming along shouting out the cocktail of the day etc. Really enjoy having a coffee in Cafe Baccio and a drink at The Martini Bar. MR_T Posted September 14, 2014 Author #37 Share Posted September 14, 2014 We have only done one cruise with another line (p&o mini cruise) and to be honest that was enough for us as at our first nights dinner in the main dining room we were astounded to hear an announcement over the loud speakers stating there was no queues to get in the dining room so people should go now... I would expect this on a p&o ferry but not a cruise line!! Maybe this happens on other lines also but again that is a massive no no for us and love that it doesn't happen on celebrity! Scrappytraveller Posted September 14, 2014 #38 Share Posted September 14, 2014 I'm always looking at other cruise lines. Which did you choose for your next three cruises and was it that the prices were lower, single supplement lower or better perks? And you are totally correct, all cruise lines have both pros and cons. I have 2 booked on RCCL (Norwegian Fjords & Baltic) and one on NCL (inaugural TA on Escape). Price was definitely a big issue with the Fjords cruise. My good buddy Mr. T booked on the Eclipse for the same week with same ports, theirs from Southhampton and mine from Copenhagen. For me as a solo the Eclipse would have been double the price for an inside cabin (I booked with RCCL when they were having a buy one get 50% off the second special back in June). To get ONE drink package with the 123go special, I would have had to pay an extra $1,300 (on top of it already being double the price of RCCL). The value of a 7 night classic drink package is nowhere near that. To me that cruise is all about the destination, I'm not fussy about the ship. I'm sad that we can't go together though. The NCL cruise was picked mostly for the experience. NCL is a lot more fun at night (at least the new big box ships). The price was right though, since I could book a studio. They've recently had a sale though with a lower single "supplement" so a lot of people have upgraded from their studios. It's nice to not be considered the cruising pariahs like most cruise lines do. Stateroom_Sailor Posted September 14, 2014 #40 Share Posted September 14, 2014 The ship and crew create a relaxing and welcoming environment. The entertainment is more geared for boomers (we're in our 30's), but I wouldn't hesitate to book Celebrity again. The MDR food is the best we've had, the officers really interact, and the service was great. I can only go by videos and word of mouth, but I think that Celebrity is a better fit for us than Princess or Holland America. Though we're about itinerary first, and every line shines in it's own way. ;)
