Surfs Up, San Juan excursion

Has anyone done the Surfs Up excursion (thru DCL)? My 6yo wants to learn to surf, so I'm thinking this may be perfect for him... I can be observer, dh can go to rum factory... My concern is that it will be too cold in January, or no waves, or disappoint some other way... Feedback appreciated!
