helicopter question

Can you bring your camera on the helicopter rides in your hand or do you need to have it on a strap to put over your neck or in a camera bag?

 

Also, has anyone used a cell phone when at the top?

You can carry your camera any way you like, and cell service is great on some of the glaciers (such as the Mendenhall) but poor on others (such as the Denver).

You can take anything on the helicopter as long as it is in your had or around your neck. NO BAGS. My daughter wanted to bring her camera and two lenes. She was only able to bring the camera and the lens that was on it. I had a small digital, Fuji E550, that I held in my hand.

 

I think the people that were on the glacier had intermitent cell phone connections.

 

We had a great time. The weather was great. The dogs were hot. We would do it again. The hightlight of our trip.

 

We used Costal in Juneau.

I can confirm that Temsco doesn't allow camera bags.

I had to leave my pack pack with different outer wear in the Coastal office as well. (Went directly to Capt, Larry form Coastal), but yes, camera in hand, had a great excursion to the Herbert Glacier. :) Never tought to try my cell phone - too busy taking pictures and sipping glacier water :eek: (bring a plastic bottle if our so inclined).

Coastal let us bring camera bags no problem. Seems like it depends on the # of passengers, and who knows what else.

We had six on our helicopter. You are probably correct.

Northstar Trekking furnished us with a fanny pack-type bag for cameras, kleenexes, water, etc. It was great! :)

 

On the helicopter I took tons of pictures with no problems. But as for extra gear, since we were doing a hike on the glacier, no one carried anything else.
