Avoiding smoke on Liberty?

We are looking at various cruises for december, and one we are considering is on Liberty.

My dad's friend was on this ship and mentioned that you have to walk through the casino to get to some places, and also some of the smaller shows/entertainment boarder the casino. - So you get the smoke from the casino.

Is this avoidable? I am allergic to smoke, and also will have my sensitive 7yr old with me. I don't mind walking farther if there is a way to avoid it, but I'd also not want to miss the entertainment because of smoke.

Thoughts?

You can up one deck where the cabins are, walked across the hallway and then back down one flight. We've done this when they had a $10 sale in front of all the shops and it was impossible to walk through the crowds.

ddloml - thank you, that was the type of information I was looking for.

boaterette - We do have a Celebrity cruise "on our list" of options, but the cost is more and also we'd have to drive a long way to port, we live right by Canaveral so its a lot easier, the dates are better for us too - coordinating 6 peoples schedules here. Also I have no desire to be IN the casino, I was more interested in avoiding it in general for things like the evening shows and general moving about the ship for activities.

hartsnvt - thank you for the map! I couldn't find it before for some reason.

RuthlessBoss and jackson bernard and KPfromCT - I have zero desire to "start a war", I'm asking because it affects my health. I can't just "hold my nose".

The map shows where one is "allowed" to smoke, but that doesn't tell me where one can smell it in surrounding areas (you know, like having a "peeing section" in the pool - doesn't always contain things)

I agree there are other nasty smells - perfume is gross and gives me a headache, but is annoying, not a health hazard (for me)

Smoke gives me asthma attacks, and if severe can stop breathing. So if we end up on this cruise, I need to plan areas I need to avoid and alternate routes around the ship as needed, I do not mind going up or down floors if need be. That was the entire point of my post.

I don't care if other people smoke, that is not my problem and not my business. - my grandma who is coming with us is a smoker herself.

I just cannot be around it at all and wanted to plan accordingly.

My father is planning/paying for the trip so its ultimatly up to him which ship we end up on, but its looking like this is his top choice due to cost and ease.

If you are so sensitive to tobacco smoke you should probably stay home. You would rather risk dying just to go on a cruise? Think of the inconvenience to all the other passengers if you have to be airlifted off the ship because you caught a whiff of smoke while walking anywhere near a lit cig.

In other words, she wanted us to do the search and give the answer? As far as regular information, she was given it.

Or there would be people here that didn't have to google to know the answer. Or those that didn't know wouldn't answer rudely and just let others that wanted to be helpful.

leighi123 -

I totally agree with ddloml and their evaluation of the layout. Yeah, I could hold my nose walking thru it but by the time I got to the other side, my clothes had picked it up, it was just that heavy. Also noticed the smell in a few stairwells. (I was on Liberty in September.) The mid ship layout was just not convenient. Loved my cruise otherwise.

I have sailed RCCL and I believe that their casinos are smoke-free now and you don't have to walk thru them to get just about anywhere you want to go on the ship. They are also running sales with B1G1HO on the second, and the third person is still even less than that.

Here is a link to all ship's smoking areas. From Carnival.com)

You should be able to avoid all areas unless you go to the Casino.

The entire atrium is between the Casino and the main theatre/showroom.

Thanks for the link! If I ever do decide to sail Carnival again, it will come in handy!

leighi123, another recommendation may also be with cabin selection and avoid booking a cabin on the 6th Deck (Upper Deck). Being someone who smokes, and I'll admit to it (I've got my fire extinguisher ready, just in case) and having just been on Carnival Liberty this past April, there are areas on Deck 6 where you will probably smell smoke in the hallway, mainly near stairs/elevators, from Deck 5. Our cabin was mid-ship and near the stairs/elevators right behind the casino bar and we could definitely smell smoke in the hallway in that immediate area, but it was not a problem for us (my issue is perfumes which can trigger pounding sinus headaches). It would not be an issue inside the cabin, but you need to go through the hallway to get elsewhere on the ship. I know that smoking is allowed in the night club (Hot and Cool night club) and also the Stage Bar, which are also on the 5th floor, toward the back of the ship, so there is a chance of smelling it from those spots near the back stairway/elevator. I agree with the other posters who recommended bypassing the 5th Deck (Promenade) by going up or down flights of stairs/elevators and walking across, to avoid it altogether. On Liberty, you won't be able to do so, as mentioned, on Deck 3 or Deck 4 (Galley).

Where is YOUR helpful information?

I have provided plenty of helpful information, as well as asked questions from fellow cruisers several times. When I see someone that I feel is being wrongfully attacked I stand up for that person. I read many of the threads to become educated.
