HAL's excursion to Tulum

We're going on the Westerdam and will be in Cozumel Friday, Dec. 16, from 11 am to 9 pm. We've signed up for HAL's 'Mayan Ruins of Tulum' excursion; departure time is 11:30 am and HAL notes that it lasts approximately 7-8 hrs., thereby returning to the dock at 'approximately' 6:30-7:30 pm.

Has anyone taken this tour; and, if so, when did you get back? There's a particular store that I would like to go to and don't know if we'll have time.

Thanks for any help!

I have been to Tulum, but haven't taken that tour. I think your ship will be docked downtown.

Most mainland ship tours seem to be on a chartered ferry, so you probably aren't at the mercy of the commoners. Me thinks that unless your tour is running late, you would have time to get to your store. If something goes wrong and they end up holding the ship for your return, then you wouldn't.

I'll bet you have time most of the time. How's that for i dunno? But I think you'll be ok.

How late is your shop open? Also I don't know if your ship will be on Cozumel time or not. Could someone else do the shopping for you? Have you checked for a roll call for your ship? Maybe make some friends on the ship?

I took this tour in December with Princess. I would presume the tours are very similar if not identical. We got back early since the group did not wish to take extra time to swim at Tulum (a beautiful beach). There was definitely time to shop.

As the previous poster noted, you will have to ferry to the mainland and walk to your coach. The process will be repeated after the tour, but, depending on where you dock, you might have to hop a taxi back to your ship after shopping.

HAL ships usually dock at the TMM pier but occasionally at both of the others. You can walk to downtown from Langosta to your store, which is where I assume the store is that you are referring to. Another option is to let the tour operator know that you would rather take the fiscal ferry back to Cozumel if you dock at TMM or Puerta Maya pier. That way you would be closed to downtown than all the way out to your ships pier. You would be responsible for the taxi ride back to your pier though. Only $6 per taxi.
