SPacificbound Posted November 10, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2014 I love rear facing balconies but I've only been on RCCL so far. On Infinity I have CC-1 for 2015, but for 2016 Celebrity cruses I was looking at the rear facing sunset verandas. What's good? What's bad? I know it's a long walk. :D
Cruise Junky Posted November 10, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 10, 2014 They're too open and exposed for us. I love aft too but I wouldn't book one on an S Class.
Sloop-JohnB Posted November 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) As much as I have fallen in love with the Aft-spots on Celebrity Ships For me it is all about prime real estate I have decided I am a BIG BALCONY girl first & foremost So the Sunset Afts on the S-Class Ships just don't do it for me (at least until I can afford a Sweet ol Suite back there) I much prefer the C2s and A1s that are Midship just "off the hump" with the oversized balconies And now having done both, will say they are truly awesome, and the views IMHO just as good, or better Cheers! Quasar Posted November 10, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 10, 2014 On S-Class Ships a few of the aft facing balconies are oversized and worth getting.
SPacificbound Posted November 10, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted November 10, 2014 Any suggestions on which A-1's to look for? Thanks! :)
Maligator Posted November 10, 2014 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2014 My only issue was the lack of an overhang. Several mornings we found detritus from the Oceanview Bar (sugar packets, bar napkins, etc) on our veranda. You can get a covered veranda, but only on the deck immediately below the bar and I have heard mixed reviews about bar noise in those cabins. oztravellerleeds Posted November 10, 2014 #7 Share Posted November 10, 2014 I have used the SV grade cabins on the Eclipse and Solstice I am currently looking to book another aft SV cabin for a cruise in 2015, I have no complaints about the cabins or balcony, yes very occasionally you get some soot from the funnel but the steward will clean the balcony chairs and table if this happens. mgfraser Posted November 10, 2014 #8 Share Posted November 10, 2014 We had a Sky Suite that was immediately below the outside deck of the Oceanview restaurant on the Eclipse. It was a terrific location with only a very minor noise from above. We will be on the Equinox early in the new year but in a Sunset Veranda, as much as we loved the Sky Suite we can't afford it this time. We love sitting on the balcony looking behind us. Sloop-JohnB Posted November 10, 2014 #11 Share Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) Any suggestions on which A-1's to look for? Thanks! :) Oversized balconies are found on and off the midship "hump" and the forward "bump". They are bigger because they are angled (ie trapazoids not standard rectangles). The biggest ones in order are 1st off, 3rd off, 2nd off, then 4th off. The midship "hump" is generally thought to be the better location... So I will just name the Cabin Numbers there. As well, being behind "the hump" tends to have less of a wind problem, as you aren't out on "the point" cutting thru the air going forward. Here then a list of the various Non Suite Categories & Cabin Numbers from The Eclipse with the oversized angled balconies from the midship locations: Oceanview Verandas - 1As Deck 6 - Frontside of the Hump Port side = 6211 (2nd off) - 6215 (1st off) Starboard = 6212 (2nd off) - 6214 (1st off) Deck 6 - Backside of the Hump Port side = 6237 (1st off) - 6239 (2nd off) Starboard = 6236 (1st off) - 6238 (2nd off) Deck 7 - Frontside of the Hump Portside = 7211 (4th off) - 7215 (3rd off) - 7217 (2nd off) - 7219 (1st off) Starboard = 7258 (4th off) - 7260 (3rd off) - 7262 (2nd off) - 7264 (1st off) Deck 7 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 7241 (1st off) - 7243 (2nd off) - 7245 (3rd off) - 7247 (4th off) Starboard = 7286 (1st off) - 7288 (2nd off) - 7290 (3rd off) - 7292 (4th off) Deck 8 - Frontside of the Hump Portside = 8251 (4th off) - 8253 (3rd off) - 8255 (2nd off) - 8257 (1st off) Starboard = 8224 (4th off) - 8226 (3rd off) - 8228 (2nd off) - 8230 (1st off) Deck 8 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 8279 (1st off) - 8281 (2nd off) - 8283 (3rd off) - 8285 (4th off) Starboard = 8252 (1st off) - 8254 (2nd off) - 8256 (3rd off) - 8258 (4th off) Deck 9 - Frontside of the Hump Portside = 9207 (4th off) - 9209 (3rd off) - 9211 (2nd off) - 9215 (1st off) Starboard = 9264 (4th off) - 9266 (3rd off) - 9268 (2nd off) - 9270 (1st off) Deck 9 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 9237 (1st off) - 9239 (2nd off) Starboard = 9292 (1st off) - 9294 (2nd off) Concierge Class - C2s Deck 9 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 9241 (3rd off) - 9243 (4th off) Starboard = 9296 (3rd off) - 9298 (4th off) Deck 10 - Frontside of the Hump Portside = 1229 (4th off) - 1231 (3rd off) Starboard = 1106 (4th off) - 1108 (3rd off) Deck 10 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 1243 (1st off) - 1245 (2nd off) - 1247 (3rd off) - 1249 (4th off) Starboard = 1120 (1st off) - 1122 (2nd off) - 1124 (3rd off) - 1126 (4th off) Deck 12 - Backside of the Hump Portside = 2105 (1st off) - 2107 (2nd off) - 2109 (3rd off) - 2111 (4th off) Starboard = 2106 (1st off) - 2108 (2nd off) - 2110 (3rd off) - 2112 (4th off) Aqua Class - A1s Deck 11 - Frontside of the Hump Portside = 1599 (4th off) - 1601 (3rd off) - 1603 (2nd off) - 1605 (1st off) Starboard = 1604 (4th off) - 1606 (3rd off) - 1608 (2nd off) - 1610 (1st off) NOTE - Cabin numbers can differ across the S-Ships... Particularly so with later builds where additional Suites were added. Therefore always important to work with Deck Plans, especially so when doing any sort of cabin number work... such as the S-Ship Cabin Spreadsheet STICKY (or my info provided here). However, physically the footprint of all the S-Class Ships are virtually identical... So cabins in the same physical locations despite of cabin numbers are going to have the same attributes. I do strongly suggest that you utilize the info on the S-Class Cabin Spreadsheet STICKY for the great additional info provided there by Cruisers have stayed in these above referenced cabins. Personally, we stayed in 1120 on The Solstice in 2012... A C2 Cabin with a 1st off balconey (largest of the lot) behind "the hump" and truly LOVED it. Besides the balcony being HUGE, being at "the point" (widest part of the ship) we also enjoyed incredible views at the rail... out, up, down to the water, and fore & aft along the swervey curves of the ship. I can highly recommend this cabin... And would book it again or one similarly placed on any of the other S-Class Ships Hope this helps, Cheers! eaglewar Posted November 11, 2014 #12 Share Posted November 11, 2014 My wife and I had a SV on an East bound transatlantic.. it was great until about 4:00pm then it turned into a sauna. I believe it would be perfect on a westbound ! Never had soot but did not have a covered portioned. Eaglewar
