deec Posted November 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 25, 2014 This is our first Vantage Cruise (Irrawaddy River) our pre-cruise documents indicate a separate tip $6pp/day for the "Hotel Director/Concierge" this is in addition to Ship Board Staff and our Cruise Director. Curious what the Hotel Director does for an additional tip.
Sgt. Pepper Posted November 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 25, 2014 The Hotel Director is in charge of the day to day operations of the ship. He also gives the port call briefings at night. I really couldn't justify giving him the amount Vantage recommended. Just a reminder. The ship is not owned by Vantage and you can not charge your tips to your credit card. You have to use US or local currency. The crew and tour directors really go out of their way to make your trip enjoyable. They definitely are entitled to the recommended guidelines. I even gave them a little more. Don't feel pressured by the guidelines do what you feel is right.
deec Posted November 25, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted November 25, 2014 Thanks for the insight. we did a Viking River Cruise this fall and at first glimpse the tips seemed high but at the end of the cruise we knew they had earned them....even gave extra to room steward. The CD on that cruise did the daily briefing not hotel manager. I have ordered new USD from my bank...hopefully it will be ok...We have gotten spoiled using the ATMs in Europe.
