Huahine - tour or DIY with car rental?

Preface: I am traveling with my 6 year old. She can swim reasonably well (for her age; i.e., a few feet), is comfortable putting her head in the water with swim goggles (never tried snorkeling), and we have a properly fitting life vest for her to help her float.

I notice that many people recommend Marc's tour in Huahine. Could anybody comment if this tour is appropriate for my family? I notice on Marc's website that there are photos with children enjoying the picnic. Would I be better served by getting a rental car going around the island myself?

Thanks for any advice.

Most of Marcs tour is a historical and informational tour aboard the boat as you circle the island. I would not recommend putting her in the water for the drift snorkel. It's around 15 feet deep and swift. She would enjoy the pearl farm, just stay next to her. Lots of pretty fish right beside the building. The picnic would be fun for her with the chickens. The water drops off to three or four feet near the shore there, but otherwise it would be fine for her.

I'm not sure what you mean by seaworthy. The tour circles inside of the reef so it's pretty mild in terms of boat motion, but everyone handles that differently.

Yes, that's what I meant. Thank you.

I recall years ago going out to the Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas and then having the fish surround us - to feed on vomit! So the required seaworthiness is definitely a consideration now before booking any excursion!
