Upgrade Stalker vs NCL's Upgrade Fairy lol

Yes, I have to admit it ahead of time, with head hung low, I am officially, as hubby calls me, The Upgrade Stalker haha. Ok, so I originally booked our cruise a month ago and we started in an Penthouse Suite/SE. Wow were we impressed with the price. After reading so many posts on CC, I started really watching our cruise and the prices. Holy crap, the price on our cabin dropped ALOT :eek: so I called our PCC to see if anything could be done. Knowing they are not obligated to do anything outside a certain window, I still wanted to try...never hurts to ask. Ya know, try to butter them up with kindness. Low and behold, bam, we were moved up to SD for FREE :D Well, now I'm definitely feeling good, bigger room, better bathroom that is bigger than a broom closet, balcony that the wind won't blow my head off, and can actually lay out in bathing suit and not blind people with my whiteness or scare the kids (or big nasty acting grown kids).

 

So all is well in our world while trying to patiently wait for our day to come to head off to paradise away from all the crazy Christmas shoppers, all the 1 finger salutes, etc. Now, knowing what I've said above, you can tell by now that I am one of those who keeps a close check on the pricing. Well, I've seen the prices coming down but really not enough to warrant me to start a calling frenzy.....until tonight!! Snap, the prices dropped so freaking low that I started to call my PCC. Crap!! He is on vacation! Called the fella he told me to. Well, 20 minutes later, phone still busy so called the main number. Now the guy is nice but guess what! He can't see the suite category because the Upgrade Stalker extraordinaire locked up the freaking room!!! I had to back out from looking and call back in 10-15 minutes. Now I'm sweating bullets and my hands are now shaking. I just knew someone was going to snag this gem of a deal up before I could talk to someone. So, I decided to go take a peek and yes it had finally released. Now to call back but guess what....forgot to write the gentleman's name down :eek: Oh well, now calling back and this is when I spoke to Servio who I now love to pieces. After explaining everything, he put me on hold for about 5 minutes. I now am thinking this deal is gone but of course I wait. He comes back on the line and informs me or yet surprises me that we are now being moved to a DOS (SA) for $60!!! Plus, keep everything there and there are more surprises coming from my regular PCC!! If this 40 yr old body could still do gymnastics, I would be flipping around ;)

 

So, we started in a Penthouse and moved all the way up to DOS for less than we pay for a dinner out. woohoo!!! Come on Sunday....hurry up and get here fast please.

I'm guilty of "upgrade stalking" myself. I don't think I could manage to get to SA, but I did manage to get from BC > BA > MA for CAD$64!

 

This really is the only way to do it. I'm surprised how good NCL is at accommodating upgrades post-final payment date. They even offered us MX at no cost but I'd rather choose my room if the cost is low.

Kill them with kindness I say! Last year after stalking prices 15-20 times per day, we got a shout-out on C.C. that prices had crashed for the remaining Haven 2BR suites. We were booked on the Pearl in a deck 10 aft SF (love that deck/suite combo!) I was at work and couldn't take the time to call of PCC so I contacted DH who called him. Lo and behold. Moved from the SF to the Haven 2BR for NO additional cost AND kept all of our OBC and our Lattitudes points for the early booking/suite/etc. This happened 2 weeks before our cruise, so it isn't always the week of type of situation. In 2010 we were also called by the Upsell Fairy for a move into the Pearl's GV #14000 for our two deck 10 aft SF's and a bit of cash. You bet we jumped on that also!

 

It is super exciting to move from one category of cabin to another. You must be gathering up all of the information and details you can find on your new suite. Enjoy it immensely!

Ya know it ;) Actually searching to find the liquor list for those suites to see what we may want...I know I saw a picture of one somewhere but who knows where I saw it lol

 

Of course I was getting the "high 5" from DH last night when he found out :D Now just wondering if we are going to miss not having a balcony but in all honesty, I can walk down the hall and sit outside until my heart is content.

I am also very guilty of Price Stalking. I started in a Inside now we are in a 2 Bedroom Villa. Was hoping DOS would drop some more but seriously. Inside to a Villa. Boy, my kids are gonna be spoiled.

Thanks! I've over joyed! I can't wait to see the kids faces once they see the suite! Then again, I think there faces are gonna fall off when they find out Thursday they aren't going to school but heading for Florida for 3 days and then the cruise on Sunday!

Interesting read ! I am wondering we are sailing in 4 days and our documents still shows GUAR so our balcony has not been assigned.

 

We booked 5 days ago when the price was super low. I was so amazed at the price and booked it right away.

 

Now I wondering ,I know there are many balconies and higher categories still available,maybe I should contact NCL and see what is my options to upgrade. We booked through online Travel Agency, which had these crazy low prices..so maybe NCL will push me back to the TA.

Couple of people on my roll call were doing the stalking and got themselves nice room upgrades (such as studio to aft balcony) and me piggybacking, got myself a Mini-suite (originally a studio). Sure it was a MX over Fat Cats, but not having to pay anything additional for it for the week of my birthday- They play all night and day for all I care. [emoji14]

 

I plan to price stalk for my 12 day trip next year - I hoping the price goes down a bit, to at least score myself an oceanview for small cost.[emoji4] (Got to be bit realistic here - it's 12 days from NYC in December *shrug*)

KollaCruise....I do know you will have to contact your TA since you booked with a TA instead of direct through NCL. Hopefully you can catch a great upgrade deal. Whether you can or can't, I do hope you have a wonderful cruise!

Thanks!! It turn out to be good vacation despite the cold weather and illness I had. ( Who knew martini tasting could cure Laryngitis? [emoji50] ) If going to be suffering from that and a cold, might as well order room service, avoid the buffet as much as possible (if sneezing badly, Thank god I didn't or have a runny nose but still keep it to a minimum as possible) and enjoy the movies / shows on the TV (Finally got to see Rear Window, Grumpy Old Men, Some like it hot, Criminal Minds, Mentalist and Bourne Identity without too much interruptions[emoji5] ) It really was a lovely trip except for the 2 times waiting on line at Guest Services due to my On Board credit but that's a separate discussion and flames throwing.[emoji57]

yikes...trying to keep well this time. Last cruise for us was last year in October and my sinuses were so bad that it ended up in my chest so all I did was cough the whole cruise. It was yuck and not enjoyable. After all this price "stalking", I refuse to get sick :D

I tried too - took Multi-viamins, Vitamin C / Airborne, dress for the weather and office - and still got sick before day before Thanksgiving. Managed to kill cold somewhat with Thermaflu but my larynx was in bad shape to the point I couldn't speak Friday and only got somewhat better on Sunday morning (embark day). Would had canceled but I didn't put insurance on (How was I suppose to know that would happen literally 5 days before my trip.*shrug*) might as well make the best of messup situation. Glad I went, it winded up curing me and losing some weight due to all food there plus moving around alot, lol.

Good for you. I do the same thing your not alone in stalking lol. I drive my PCC crazy switching everything. Luckily he told me he gets credit for just being on the phone so I don't feel so bad lol

I hope it's the same for email! My PCC is a senior consultant. I've only been using her for a few months, and I adore her. I don't use the casino, but stalking works for me: a game of chance and manipulation which just makes the whole experience more fun. I book the cheapest (which isn't always a low price) cabin I can be happy with but watch. When booking 9-12 mos. out ( or more), prices can do crazy things.
