Lively beach suggestions

Shopping is either in the port or along the road just outside. All tourista type places carrying items you'll also see in Cozumel and other Western C ports.

Along the malecon in Mahahual where the "beaches" are (it's all one long beach) there are some smaller craft kiosks and shops, but not a lot.

I think YaYa may have music. It's in the middle of the malecon. It's relatively new but picking up steam from positive reviews. Music is possible at Corona Beach Club and Tequila Beach as well. The latter two are closer to the end of the malecon nearest the cruise port and generally get crowded by snagging the first walk ons off the buses or taxis. Tequila Beach, at one time had the most "water activities" including jet skis. The malecon's character has changed dramatically over the past 18 months so that may no longer be the case. YaYas supposedly has paddleboards now.

Pez Quadro, Tropicante or Blue Kay might be options. Pez Quadro has palapas, beach massages and offers a discount to their all-inclusive packet on their web site. Tropicante has a great rep/ good service and good food and drink at reasonable prices. Blue Kay is a bit laid back and though closer to the cruise port than even Tequila Beach, hasn't attracted the crowds yet.

Reviews of these places are on this board and on TA. You can google all for websites.

Thanks crewsweeper! I will check out yaya. All we want is a clean beach with pretty water, drinks, food and music. No activities this beach trip, just lay in the sun with a lively atmosphere!

If all you want is a pretty beach you will probably be happy anywhere along the main stretch...take the bus over and walk until you see where it's going on! Depending on how early in the day you get there, you may be the ones getting the party started. The swimming here is hit or miss with sea grass, etc., in the water. Last time we were there we did not go over to the beaches, but stayed at the pool complex. One of the times before that we walked the length of the street by the beaches and bought a snorkel package from the guys towards the end of the road. There were lots of shop owners trying to sell us things along the way, both at the pier area and over by the beach.

We will be going to Costa Maya for the first time. We need suggestions for a nice beach. We are not looking particularly to party or anything too lively. Just a nice pretty beach that is free or does not cost an arm and a leg. Any suggestions?

See my post above. Look into mitsugirly's review of Blue Kay. You can take a taxi or a bus to the malecon ($3 pp) and just walk along and stop at any of the places you think would fit your needs. There's no real separation between beach clubs. You'll be bombarded by lounger hawkers trying to get you to set up at their beach, but unless you make a reservation at Tropicante, YaYa's or Pez Quadro, just ignore them and walk along til you see a spot that looks okay to you. Places mentioned in this post have good food, drink, and good service at decent prices. No admittance fees like Cozumel.
