Which month is the best time to cruise South America?

I am sailing from Valparaiso to Buenos Aires in December, arriving in Buenos Aires on New Year's day.

 

Not too concerned about the weather as that, for me, is part of the whole adventure.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. I meant from Buenos Aires to Santiago or reverse for smooth seas.

We'll be going Rio to Santiago in January - because that's the only Princess cruise of the season that is 21 days and includes Antarctica.

 

From what I've read, I think the seas are iffy (rounding the Horn) - any time you go.

We went in November/December and had smooth seas except for off the Chile coast. Regardless of when you go, you risk some rough seas in these waters....they are not called the Roaring 40s for nothing. If you want a guarantee of smooth seas, you may not want to go on this trip.
