New Galveston Cruiser - IAH to Galveston

I am in the early stages of planning a cruise and am thinking of traveling to Galveston. The easiest airport for us to fly into would be IAH. I've been reading a lot of people complaining about getting from IAH to Galveston and the Galveston port. Is the travel time about 1.5 hours? We'd be flying in the day before and probably staying at a hotel near Galveston. Just trying to get some thoughts, thanks!

The airport is about 75 miles north of the port. The big issue is, the city of Houston sits between the two. If you plan on 2 hrs you would be better. Of course it could be more depending on what day/time of day you try to make the trip.
