Beaches to Visit - Low/no Cost

One of the ports of call for our upcoming cruise in May will be St. Kitts. This will be the first time that we have visited this island. We will also have a family of 4 travelling with us which this will be their first cruise.

Does any one have any information on the following:

1. What beaches are worth spending the day at? We like just hanging out on the beach, swimming and maybe some snorkeling.

2. Is it in walking distance from the pier? If not I assume a taxi can take us there. Do you know the rates?

3. Are there any entrance fees to the beach/resort?

4. What amenities are available at the beach/resort (shops, restaurants, restrooms, etc)?

We just want to compare those costs with the cruise line excursion costs. Any help from the community is greatly appreciated!

Happy New Year! :)

1. Popular beaches in proximity to the port-South Frigate Bay-home of the "Strip" & Timothy Beach Resort, North Frigate Bay- home of the Marriott & on the Atlantic Ocean, South Friars Beach-several beachfront restaurant/bars & Carambola-on the Caribbean, North Friars Beach-no amenities & on the Atlantic Ocean, at the far end of the SE Peninsula are Cockleshell Bay, Banana Bay & Sand Bank Bay, a popular place is Reggae Beach Bar.

2. There are no beaches within walking distance to the port.

3. All beaches are open to the public & free. Some resorts may charge to use their facilities(beach chairs, pool etc.)

from the port to South Friars should be about $15 or so each way. Have your driver come back and get you. There are usually some taxis waiting for fares.

Would that cab ride fee be per person or for a cab full of riders?

There is a taxi stand in the port. They will give you info on the fare, and if you want to share a cab, they will help you coordinate that. It's best though, that you get off the ship early so that there are more people looking for a ride.

We shared a ride to South Friar's, then had the taxi come back to pick us up.

There are some beach bars along the beach between Carambola on the north end of South Friars Beach and Shipwreck on the south end of South Friars. Some are open on a regular basis but a few are not. I tend to spend my time at Shipwreck when I am on island.
