Shore Excursion Desk

On the day of embarkation in San Juan, what time does the shore excursion desk open? Is it usually very busy that day? We have a lot of OBC and would like to wait until then to book anything but don't want to get closed out of our first choices.

As with any activity on the ship, probably best to go as early as possible on the day of embarkation to sign up for excursions, regardless how long the line might be.

How knowledgeable is the staff at the excursion desk? I really have no idea what we want to do at a couple ports and could use some recommendations from them if they know their stuff.

You will find them ready to take your bookings when you board. Typical hours for embarkation day are 11 - 9 with closing during the Muster Drill.

 

But as for how much they know about the ports? Well, that varies enormously. If you are on a cruise where previously the ship has visited that port, you will find that they might have gotten some feedback and will know more about specific shore excursions. But if it's the first time in that port that season, they might not know anything more than the written description you can read for yourself.
