Shera1028 Posted January 12, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2015 Has anyone used Johnny's Scooter Rentals in Simpson Bay? Trip Advisor has good reviews, but was hoping to get some insight from any CC members who may have given them a try. Thanks!!
OkieGeezer Posted January 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2015 DO NOT RENT A SCOOTER! The roads are narrow, extremely rough and the traffic is terrible. Most local motorcycles run down the center line and pass without any reasonable care. Motorists hate the cycles and scooters. Rent cars are cheap. Keep yourself safe. maggiec_38 Posted January 13, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2015 We rented ATV's and a jeep one year when we were there.. What a great way to see St. Maarten.. They give you a map of the whole island with all the roads and we went all around the outside of the island and stopped at various places along the way.. even the grocery store to pick up snacks and drinks. Our boys(they do have they motorcycle license) went on the ATV's and hubby, younger son and myself went in the jeep. We had a blast, boys had their girlfriends on the back of the ATV's.. they were in their early 20's at the time, rented 4 all together and one jeep.. You will love it!! We didn't find it scary as they are used to motorcycles, just busy in the main towns, but once out, very nice scenery!!

I'm also interested in this...does anyone have any experience with this company or renting scooters in general in St Martin?
navybankerteacher Posted February 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2015 Unless you are fairly experienced riding a scooter or motorcycle, St. Maarten is not a good place to learn how. The roads are pretty rough in places, not too bad for a car, but there are moments of potholes which can flip a scooter. The other drivers are reasonably courteous, but some tend to be a shade aggressive. Renting a car makes a lot more sense if you are not quite experienced. navybankerteacher Posted February 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2015 I should have added: I use a scooter regularly to get around at home - but find the road conditions in St. Maarten less than ideal - and very bad for an inexperienced rider.
