Cruisingfamilyx10 Posted January 13, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2015 The youtube videos for stingray city all seem to show a fence. Is this accurate? Is it a controlled activity? When we went to Grand cayman the stingray were wild- can anyone tell me if Antigua offers a more natural activity? (Yes I know it's not truly wild because the stingray are tame and come for easy food, but they can go anytime they want if not fenced.)
MichaelCMTX Posted January 13, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2015 Cayman rays at Stingray City were wild. When we did Stingrays at Cozumel they were sort of corralled in a shallow beach area and not free roaming, and water was COLD Me and the Rays both enjoyed Cayman a lot more. :)

The ones that come to Stingray City in Antigua are wild , no fencing, that went away a few years ago. After one of the more recent hurricanes took out the fencing you see in the videos the rays just stayed. They know that they will fed when boats come to the floating dock. Cruisingfamilyx10 Posted January 13, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted January 13, 2015 Thank you! I must have been watching older YouTube videos because the fencing was clearly up! My daughter will be happy to hear this -she wants to explore and meet animals but ONLY if they're wild and free to come and go. ❤️
Laurin612 Posted January 13, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 13, 2015 The fencing at Stingray City must have been happened in the late 90's and has now stopped. DH and I were there in 1996 and there was no fence and we went back with the kids last year and there was also no fence. ozarkmama Posted January 13, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2015 We went to Stingray city in Antigua last year and it was the highlight of our cruise. They are not captive in any way. The snorkeling was really nice there. My husband doesn't swim and it was shallow enough he was able to enjoy it also.
