Cozumel Animal Shelter

Has anyone packed a bag of goodies for the animal shelter and deliver them while at port via taxi?

What a timely question- we plan to volunteer there when we are in port in early Feb. I am just working on the details with them right now. If we dock at the right pier, the shelter seems within walking distance.

Please let me know how it goes! I found someone on another site saying they need lots of flea and tick medication so we're going to get donations and take them with us!

We volunteered there for an afternoon on our recent cruise. The treasurer (Debbie) and the on-site coordinator (Ricardo) were very helpful. It is a relatively small facility: they had 16 dogs and similar number of cats. But it was very well maintained and all the animals looked healthy and well taken care of. We did not sense any infestation of fleas or ticks.

I would contact them directly through their website (Humane Society of Cozumel) to find out their specific needs. The day we were there, water was the need of the day since the water truck had not arrived yet. Their biggest challenge remains getting the transportation for the animals to their adoptive families in the States.
