Florida Driving Advice - Fort Myers to Port Canaveral

Hi, I'm looking for some driving route advice. We have rented a car to drive from North Fort Myers to the Port.

Google maps is giving me three different routes, there are all within 10-15 minutes time wise, I'm just wondering what would be the "easiest" route to follow. I don't have a problem driving major highways, I just want the most stress free, least traffic drive possible.

The choices it is giving me is: via US 17 N to FL-528E, via I75N and I4 east and via FL-70E and I-95N.

Thanks!

Here's what I'd do

17 north to I-4 (Polk City area)

I-4 east (north) to 417 (WDW area)

417 to 528

528 east to the port

(this is what Google Maps gave me as well)

note that 528 and 417 are toll roads but a roll of quarters will more than cover you for exact change lanes . . .

Concern is on 17 up towards where it meets 4 .. could be a bit of a slow down depending on time of day and day of week. Most of 17 seems to be thru very rural area tho.

Alternate would be 75 to 4 in Tampa and everything the same from there . . . but I-4 'tween Tampa and Orlando can be a bi*ch SOMETIMES . . . but you would be interstate/limited access all the way . . .

I would not take 17 all the way to 528 ... that's gonna be slow once you get into the greater Orlando/Kissimmee area (sometimes referred to as 17 - 92 . . . )
