kelkel2 Posted February 1, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 1, 2015 What kind of shopping is available as you walk off the ship? Is there anything local or are there duty free shops or both? Are there a lot of shops? Anything must see that's within walking distance from the ship? I really enjoy walking around the port and exploring and I'll take a taxi if I must, but don't really like to.
sail7seas Posted February 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 2, 2015 There are three places ships dock in Curacao. If you are at Mega Pier, there are lots of stores right there. If you dock at the floating bridge, it's about a 10 minute walk to stores and lots of then. :) If by the oil tanks, well,,,,,,, that's not a great place to dock. Vidimom Posted February 11, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2015 We were on the Breeze last August and went to Curacao. We docked at the Mega Pier and were able to walk to the shopping area. There are lots of craft vendors along the water front by the bridge. There is even a Starbucks in the Fort area along with lots of upper scale stores there. We did cross over the bridge and there were lots of shopping and restaurants available over there. We really felt very safe and enjoyed it so much that we are going back on another cruise in May that will go back to Curacao!
sail7seas Posted February 12, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 12, 2015 Curacao is very safe. Probably one of the safest of Caribbean islands. As a woman, I wouldn't hesitate to shop around Rif Fort/Mega Pier or across the floating bridge on my own.

cruisetodayteachtomorrow Posted February 27, 2015 #6 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Our Scuba diving dinner table mates heard and experienced a different story. The guide who took them doesn't even lock the car because people there break the windows they were told and steal things. This nice couple had cheap sunglasses stolen from glove box of vehicle. We took the Irie tours and felt safe but thought the beach we stopped at was overcrowded. We are going to cross over floating bridge and explore more this year. Last time we were hot after bus tour. Love the Beautiful colored buildings!
