delirious9876 Posted February 6, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 6, 2015 Is SkySea Cruises owned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.?And how big is the chance Legend and Splendour Will be transferred to this company? Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. have agreed to form a strategic partnership through SkySea Cruises, a joint venture which is designed to serve the Chinese cruise market. Royal Caribbean and Ctrip each own 35% of the new company, with the balance being owned by SkySea management and a private equity fund. The new cruise line will begin service in the middle of 2015 and will operate with one ship. No idea about your comments re: ships being transferred to SkySea. MADflyer Posted February 6, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2015 With recent investments in both Legend and Splendour, it would seem that a transfer would not be feasible on the short term, while might prove interesting on the long term. I would speculate that Splendour and Legend would first be considered for withdrawal from the RCI fleet in 2018 and onwards. A major step may depend on what happens with the Korean STX and their sale of French shipyard STX France. If this stake goes to Fincantieri that could indicate a move toward 'for purpose' cruise vessels being built in a Chinese joint venture. While Carnival is also pursuing this joint venture, the biggest problem is that European ship building facilities are currently fully booked through 2018. SkySea Cruises ' initial ship is ex-Celebrity CENTURY which arrives in Singapore april19th , her final cruise for Celebrity before the hand-over to SeaSky ,followed by a rather substantial drydock visit. There are speculations that current RCCL's ships in the area ( Voyageur & Mariner) will be the source of of ''future expension'', as well as Celebrity's Millenium, also in the area ( but only seasonnaly...). Of course, ''future expansion'' may or may not be either soon, in the distant future or far off...( way off....).and consists of one, two or more ships...:cool: That joint venture RCL has entered into is very similar to the one which gave birth to TUI Cruises. That particular venture has worked famously well as TUI, started with ex-Celebrity Galaxy & Mercury, has now 2 new build as well as two more under construction !!!
