mrscrab Posted February 27, 2015 #26 Share Posted February 27, 2015 They will not allow you to use your OBC towards a donation to the Crew Welfare Fund. We didn't know this and thought we had donated $500 to the Fund. On our final statement we saw that the $500 was a charge against our Amex card. Just be aware!! Chairsin Posted February 27, 2015 #27 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Then that is new because as recently as our cruise last fall our donation was in part from the amount remaining from our OBC at the end of the cruise. Wonder if it was an accounting glitch that you encountered or indeed new policy. I shall clear that up when we board the Legend in April.
Rare Catlover54 Posted March 15, 2015 Author #28 Share Posted March 15, 2015 You CAN use your onboard credit to pay for your excursions. Yes, you have to pay in advance with your credit card but then it is credited back onto that once on board and taken off your onboard credit. We have done this several times. It appears most people are saying that if you book excursions in advance and pay as required, you can then when on board use your OBC to credit the credit card. Others say there is no need because excursions do not book up, so just wait and book on board. Or it may depend where the OBC came from. Spa appointments, however, do book up in advance, so I wonder if pre-paid spa treatments can also be credited back using OBC? we will have $2000 in OBC for our first SB cruise this September and want to make sure we can spend it on excursions and spa, not just trinkets in the boutique! secoma4 Posted March 17, 2015 #29 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Sounds like the answer lies in how long your cruise is. For anything over, say, 14 days it is likely you would have plenty of opportunity to use your OBC by booking spa treatments and excursions whilst on board. For something like a massage I have never booked ahead and there has been no difficulty getting an appointment. What you may find is that bookings on sea days become tight so if that is what you are after booking in advance may be worthwhile.
