Dry dock for the Dawn Princess ?

Hi All.

There appears to be a gap of 14 days for the Dawn Princess around the 11th of May 2015 to the 24th of May 2015 in Singapore.

Does anyone know what they might be doing during this period ?

A possible dry dock ? If so what are they doing, just regular maintenance or refurbishment and additions.

Regards,

Harry W.

Depends on what you define refurbishment as. Probably no major changes to venues, or additions to cabins or venues. However, cabin refurbishment is certainly doable in two weeks, given that not all cabins need it (some carpeting, etc., is renewed in service). We renewed all carpeting, upholstery, and artwork in 3 weeks when we changed the "theme" of the ship.

Good point. I was thinking of large scale changes not freshening up decor.

Dawn's last major changes were in 2009 when MUTS and Sanctuary were added. Last drydocking in May 2012 was just cabin refurbishments and maintenance. Not sure how much Princess has changed on newer ships that would be incorporated on Dawn, so I suspect just freshening up guest areas and more maintenance. When you get to the 15 year mark, the hull and machinery inspections become more intense, and are the critical time path for the shipyard period.

While I have no information I was caught out recently thinking a Princess ship we were about to go on was going into dry dock only to find out that the ship was being used for a 'special interest' cruise. I think it may have been chartered. If that is the case it shows up as a black out on Princess itinerary schedule. Maybe this is what is happening to the Dawn Princess. As I said I don't know but maybe.:)
