Dr.Mabuse Posted September 1, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 1, 2005 I heard that you need water shoes for the majority of the beaches in curacao are they beaches with nice sand and no rocks in the water? And if so how far from the pier are they?

rjscott Posted September 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2005 We went to Playa Porto Mari and the sand was very nice, and the entry into the water was very easy. Yes, there are spots where there are rocks, but they are easy to see and avoid.

lvz2cruz Posted October 3, 2005 #5 Share Posted October 3, 2005 We went on a shore excursion to the Underwater Park. We left our shoes and clothes in the bathhouse and walked 3-5 minutes to the water. The ground was VERY rough and I wished I had kept my shoes. The water was not bad, but you might want shoes or flippers. There are no beaches near the pier. Most are about a 15-20 minute ride. You are best to do a ship shore excursion here because there isn't alot to do on your own.
rjscott Posted October 4, 2005 #6 Share Posted October 4, 2005 I must respectfully disagree with lz2cruz. This was our 3rd trip to Curacao, and there are many things to do on one's own. We took a taxi to Playa Porto Mari this time, and enjoyed it very much. On a prior visit, we walked across the floating bridge into town and took a walking tour of the historic sights. There is a brochure available that highlights the attractions. We also visited the floating market which is where the locals purchase their produce and fish. We visited a casino on our way back to the ship. There is plenty to pn your own if you do a little research into what's available that may be of interest to you.
