jewelzz Posted February 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted February 15, 2015 We will be in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo. What is the best town to buy tequila and are there any tours worth going to?
Ine Posted February 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted February 15, 2015 The only real Tequila tours will be going to Tequila. But that is too far out if you are docked in Puerto Vallarta or any other place for the day. Some tours will be offered as tequila tours, but that will visit small factories that will sell their ""tequila"" Best prices in Puerto Vallarta will be the liquor shops of La Playa, but also Walmart (opposite the cruise terminal) also often has good prices and a nice selection. cardqb Posted February 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) We went on a tequila tour in PV and it was fun.. several hours long and they picked us up at the ship. Took us to three different "tequila factories" ... taught a lot about how it's made. Then basically upsold us on their "factory direct" tequila. Watch out tho, as with almost anything bought in Mexico, they took advantage of the fact that we were on a tour and sold us some very bad flavored tequila. The samples were great!! But the sealed bottles we brought home tasted like dirt.. maybe crack one open and test it before leaving the factory? If you want a good selection of Mexican tequila, and you happen to be in Cabo, check out a shop called Tequila Town. It's a bit of a distance from the tender dock, but it's worth the walk. swedish weave Posted February 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted February 18, 2015 If you walk the malecon in PV, there are some shops that will give you samples of their flavored tequila. Those we have purchased from them are the same as the samples. For the best prices, Wal Mart seems to the place to check.
MSN-Travelers Posted February 18, 2015 #5 Share Posted February 18, 2015 In addition to Walmart, the Soriano grocery store immediately south of the port has a great selection. The La Cofradia brand distillery, in the City of Tequila, has a string of "factory outlet" tasting outlets on/around the Malecon. http://www.tequilacofradia.com/english/ If you're looking for flavored tequila, the La Cofradia outlets will have better prices than the tequila "factories" you will visit on a local tour. Enjoy!
moviegal Posted March 3, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2015 I second the store recommendations above. If you wander a few streets over (off of the main tourist drag), you'll find local markets and supermarkets. That's where you'll find tasty, local high end tequila for cheap. We've purchased tequila that we've never tried and have been impressed with the quality.
