newlywed121104 Posted September 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted September 5, 2005 Are there any tours that are pretty good for seasoned snorkelers in Nassau? We are going on the Sovereign of the Seas 9/19. We would really like to know if it's worth snorkeling with a tour. Or if there is any snorkeling from shore. Thanks!!
TrqoisWtrs Posted September 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2005 I haven't heard of any really good snorkeling from shore. I wasn't impressed with the excursion I took through the ship either. A huge cattle boat and crappy snorkeling - yuk! I have heard this one is pretty good though - we had signed up but then didn't get a chance to try it because of timing and we were stuck grabbing something through the ship. sportsterjohn Posted September 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2005 try going with Stuart Cove. If the Sovereign is still on the same schedule as it was in 2003, then the noon trip is doable although you will have to make sure you get off the ship asap. Stevesan Posted September 8, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2005 A strong Recommendation for Stuart's Cove. I'm a bit lazy, so I'll just copy paste part of my review: Nassau: “Snorkel Bahamas Adventure” is a 5-½ hour trip operated by Stuart’s Cove. On a previous excursion I went on the impressive Athol Island snorkel. This Stuart’s Cove outing surpassed all of my previous experiences, including Athol Island. The boat trip is @ three hours, and visits Schoolhouse Reef, the spectacular Golden Key Reef and finally a “swim with the sharks” at ‘The Wreck of the Bahama Mama’. I have never before witnessed such a number and variety of fish as at Golden Key. There are never-ending fish, large and small, singly and in large schools. The floor is decorated with huge, magnificent coral formations of all shapes and sizes. While there, a shark cruised past our group. He obviously thought this was his ocean and didn’t know, nor care, that we weren’t scheduled for a shark encounter until after Golden Key. Surprisingly, getting in with a dozen or so sharks is not frightening. I suspect we were too caught up with their grace and magnificence to be scared. The fact that the boat captain hadn’t lost a diver in twelve years was also encouraging. This is a five star, gold medallion, prime trip, not to be missed!
