Don't call it Frisco (subtitle of article)

As a New Yorker, I'm not making any comment on what to call the city of San Francisco but I did come across this great essay on the history of San Francisco's nicknames. Among the popular are San Fran (ouch), Frisco (double ouch), Fog City and the ever beloved "City By the Bay"

 

I also found it amusing as the author explains to why we don't call New York, "Nork" Thank goodness.

 

And as far as "The City" goes, I totally get that one, as that's my personal favorite for Manhattan as well.
