romy Posted September 28, 2007 #1227 Share Posted September 28, 2007 Dave,It was downright cold!!! We hit a blizzard going and coming home. The drives were not fun, but the cruise sure was. Yes, it won't be long until we're looking at that again, and I'm not looking forward to it one bit. I'll take that Caribbean with you. :D What a difference 2 days make... Jackie Same balcony, 2 days earlier.... Dave, now THAT'S more like it!!!! Happy Sails!! Romy:)

janabug Posted September 30, 2007 #1232 Share Posted September 30, 2007 Not the best, but it is my favorite! From the boat on the way to Stingray City, there were Iguanas lounging all over everybodies docks. This guy was pretty big!
MAO Posted October 1, 2007 #1233 Share Posted October 1, 2007 Welcome home to New England! Ok I thought about sailing out of NJ in Jan. because thats when we always go and we'd save flight costs but if we have to have snow on our balcony when we get back FORGET IT!!! chesterh Posted October 2, 2007 #1234 Share Posted October 2, 2007 This is not a happy cruise picture, but I do like it. I took it with a 110 Instamatic camera at the dock on St. Thomas, 3/31/1979. The ship is (was) Angelina Lauro. The fire was declared "out" after 6 days, but she continued to smolder long after that. The complete story and more pictures are available at: http://www.chesterh.com/angelina_lauro.htm
chesterh Posted October 2, 2007 #1235 Share Posted October 2, 2007 On a happier note, here is a view of St. Thomas harbor on a Friday night - sometime in the late seventies. Note that there are 4 ships at the dock. Today, although the dock has been extended by a good amount, only 2 and a half ships fit there.
Cruisetini Posted October 2, 2007 #1236 Share Posted October 2, 2007 The morning of our wedding on the NCL Star - I watched "my ship come in" and also enjoyed a beautiful sunrise! This is what my husband looks like now when I mention another cruise......!

angeljt Posted October 4, 2007 #1240 Share Posted October 4, 2007 I posted pictures from our recent cruise on Carnival Triumph. Feel free to critique the photos. Nice pics, and great color. I really liked the one of the two people on the rafts, the Capital Bar and the casino picture. Imagine my surprise when I saw the picture of my old cruising buddy, Jean Michele in a couple of your pics. We cruised together last year on the Dawn. :D He's in some of my pics too. Jackie Thank you for the nice review. I'm fairly new to DSLR cameras and some of my pictures didn't come out as well as I would have wanted, but overall I'm quite pleased. Jean-Michel is a frequent cruiser and a great guy and I would be happy if we were another cruise together. You can check out our Roll Call (Carnival Triumph 9/22/07) and leave him a message. Maybe I should try some!:D Thanks for sharing, and good luck with the D40! Happy shooting! Dave Thank you Dave, I love the D40. I wish now that I was able to buy the 55-200 lens that you recommended, but it was just too expensive. I have other scenery shots that I haven't posted yet. I got these online first because I wanted the people we cruised with to be able to see them. I will be sorting through my pictures and posting the best ones. I have a Pbase/Picasa question for you. Is there an easy way to upload from Picasa to Pbase? I played with it for quite a while and couldn't figure it out so I uploaded them from the folder that I orginally downloaded them to. You're welcome, you did a great job. I am thinking about a new camera also. I believe my Olympus C-700 (about 4 or 5 years old) is going to be replaced soon. How do you like the D40? I'd appreciate any recommendations if anyone else wants to jump in either. I haven't done any research on new cameras yet, but it's getting to be that time. Yes, Jean-Michel had a few cruises planned when we cruised last year. He is a great guy, and we had a lot of fun. I would also be very happy to cruise with him again. :D We still email every once in a while. He was really looking forward to taking his Mom on the Dawn last spring also. I know they had a great time. I will pop over and say hi to him soon... Thanks for the idea. Jackie Jean-Michel and me at 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman.... At Gatsby's..... What I'm going to have to do now is see where I can take a photography class so I can use more of the features and, hopefully, take better and more creative pictures. I am really impressed at how well it does in low light, but my previous camera was an Olymous Stylus and it did not do well in anything less than direct sunlight. I recommend the D40. I read some reviews of the D40X and the general concensus is to not spend the extra money for the X because the D40 does pretty much everything you could want it to. That is a good picture of Jean-Michel. :) Bryan
Rare pierces Posted October 5, 2007 #1246 Share Posted October 5, 2007 I have a Pbase/Picasa question for you. Is there an easy way to upload from Picasa to Pbase? I played with it for quite a while and couldn't figure it out so I uploaded them from the folder that I originally downloaded them to. Bryan Here's my Pbase procedure: - Select photos in Picasa - Export (1200 or 1600...usually 1200) to my "Upload" folder. - Add all the reduced photos to an upload.zip file with WinZip. - Select and delete the reduced files (you can use the WinZip dialog to move instead of copy which deletes the reduced photos after zipping them). - Go to the Pbase upload and upload the zip file. Since Pbase will unzip the package and process them automatically, it saves me a bunch of time I would have spent selecting them one at a time. - Delete the local zip file if the space is important. Not as automatic and simplistic as PicasaWeb uploads, but it is pretty quick and easy. Dave

I'll have to have DH check that out for me. He knows a lot more about cameras than I do. I'm mostly point and shoot. I was learning about the settings on his old Canon AE1 Program, but then I got a Kodak Digital about 9 or 10 years ago and used the auto settings, and stopped learning about aperature and shutter speeds. :( My Olympus is very poor in low light too. I think Dave should teach the photography class. :D Jackie
