Fresh off the Magic in Galveston

Just wanted to share a couple updates I could think of about the magic since I sailed it 2-3 years ago. I'm new to the board, so alot of this might be common knowledge:

We got a $99 Unlimited internet package before, but it is no longer offered. Same crappy internet, just charged in per-minute packages now.

Same menu as before, hasn't been updated to the new one.

No free samples in our room :P

They have a new claw crane game in the casino to pick up stacks of cash. It's damn near impossible and will eat all your singles!

Code "Bravo Bravo" means man overboard apparently...

Hi. We are sailing out on the Magic in a couple of weeks. Can you tell me more about the $99 internet package. I thought that was something new that Carnival was offering. How come its no longer offered? Also, do you know the per minute rates? And how many devices can be attached to one account?

I was on the same sailing. Rates ranged from $.75/min -$.33/min

The $.33/min was on the 480 minute package. There was a 240 minuted package that cost $.37/min and a couple of other smaller packages that I don't remember the prices of.

Edited to add: I have absolutely no way to prove this, but I'm thinking they took the $99 package away until the Texas spring break cruises are over. It makes them a lot more money and frees up bandwidth for those that purchase. Internet speed was the worst I have ever experienced even by cruise ship standards!

Last time we were on the Magic, there was a plan for a single device to use the internet for the duration of the cruise for a $99 dollar flat fee. I'm not sure when it happened, but this is no longer the case. I don't have the actual rates, but if I remember correctly pay-as-you-go was something like 79 cents a minute, with packages of minutes progressively getting cheaper. I think the largest package you could get was $129 for 29/cents a minute or so. Someone on here may have the actual flyer.

You can use it on one device at a time. So your laptop would have to log off before your phone could get online, etc.

Yes, we also got the $29 package for 45 minutes--only checked email once each day on a 6-day cruise and it ate up all the minutes by the end. Once logged in, we kept getting a "not found" message each time we click to start CableOne email. We had to keep clicking it and it finally would work, but it ate up 5-10 minutes with each login. Seems like when they make some improvements, they take a step backward with others. Think next time, we will just tell folks back home that they will not hear from us until we get back.

Yeah, this was on first cruise without samples in the room...make or break, no...but I always enjoyed them. I never asked anyone if that would be the case all the time.

We ate in the Steakhouse twice which was EXCELLENT!! We took advantage of the kids club on a few occasions as we really don't get too many nights out at home.

I was really upset I didn't get my Bitter n blanc....did I miss it or did they take it off the menu? :(

I saw some of the same folks doing that claw machine over and over and I am quite sure they spent more than the $100 pack :) lol

Bravo Bravo was scary, glad they were able to rescue the lady. That was a very windy day, it could have been much worse.

I didn't see the Bitter n Blanc, just the soufle. We ate at the steakhouse the first day, mostly for the free bottle of wine. Wasn't great wine, but it was free wine :)

The weather going out and coming back was disappointing though. I was really wanting to just get some sun and relaxation in Saturday. We booked when it was a 5 day, so at least we didn't technically pay for Saturday, heh.

I also wished they had extended Cozumel instead of Progresso. Some locals told us ships only stop in Progresso because the maintenance is cheap.

So? Are you guys going to tell what happened? Did someone fall overboard?

Yes, while we were docked in Costa Maya a passenger went overboard and two others went in after her. They treated her onboard and then sent her by ambulance to the hospital. I did not personally witness it, but apparently she fell between the ship and the dock.

They had multiple drills for the crew throughout the week, but you could tell by the captains voice, this was no drill!

Yep, us too :) for the wine and the last night just because we felt like it. Man that food was incredible!

My friends paid for 5, we booked after it went to 6. The last day weather was a bummer. We went ahead and packed that morning to free up our evening plans and then took our 4 year old to the slides one last time. Let him run around until his lips turned purple. I went one time and about died it was so cold and then wore my robe. I am sure I looked ridiculous but it was warm.

I agree, Cozumel definitely would have made more sense. My son and I stayed on board in Progreso and spent all day at the slides and had a blast, it was such a beautiful/fun/relaxing day. My husband has always want to do the 4wheelers so he spent the day doing that. It was really nice to almost have the ship to ourselves.

I didn't see her actually fall, but we were on our balcony at the time and did see the guys start running down the pier with the safety ring. Came in and told my husband that something bad must have happened and shortly after heard the Bravo Bravo and then the announcement from the CD. It was very sad and I used as a moment to tell my 4 year old why mommy and daddy are always telling him to be careful and why we make him hold our hand. Was very relieved that she survived, those seas were very rough that day.

It freaked my 4 & 9 year old's out a little. I was in the process of getting them ready for dinner and we had to stop and have a conversation because they were trying to grasp how someone could go overboard... That was an interesting conversation! Probably not my best parenting moment, but I was honest with them about the only ways that I can think someone goes over.

Yeah, my 4 year old got teary eyed. I just told him we needed to pray, so we did. That helped make him feel better. I updated him later that the lady was ok and he was relieved. Big gut check on vacation that is for sure but it really puts things in perspective.

I head out on Carnival Magic this weekend. Just curious as to which movies were playing on the big screen... any ideas? We plan on watching some newer movies on our trip and it wouldn't be as fun to watch one on the way that we might want to watch on the ship anyway. Thanks for any input at all!

I know Big Hero 6 was one and Fault in our Stars...Ninja Turtles, Interstellar. That is all I can recall at the top of my head.
