:( email me for more ..if you are thinking of the regal

Since the email addresses have never shown up, even if you have it checked in your user CP, you must post your address for anyone to email you.

We sailed on the Regal over 10 years ago, and I have to admit, we are one of the few that really were not fond of the ship at all. (OUCH, I know that those that love the Regal will not like that comment but I am just being truthful). ;)

My first 3 cruises were on the Crown(Regals sister ship). We loved it, except for the gym being down in the bowels of the ship. People have to understand that if you are use to...and like the mega ships... don't do these smaller ones.

This is an excellent review – thank you so much for all of the detail and for allowing us a conduit to communicate with you directly.

Given that I feel the exact opposite about Regal Princess, it would be nice to have some detail to understand your issues. I can only conclude that you’re not suited for this type of ship and that doing some research before your sailing might have kept you away from a boring ship. But what do I know – I don’t have any information…?

Here's a link to the review I posted last August after my Regal Princess cruise - for comparison...

We spent 18 days on the Regal last year SF to NYC and were never bored for a minute. In fact, we were so busy we had to keep a calendar and schedule time for sunning on the fabulous Aft deck with those great hot tubs.

It would be interesting to know the reason for your boredom. Our first cruise was a trip to Alaska on the OLD Golden Princess, that had absolutely no amentities and we loved that trip. We stayed outside watching the scenery for hours on end. Truly different strokes for different folks.

Perhaps this is one of those souls who have to be constantly entertained and bombarded with external stimuli. He should have chosen a ship with MUTS.

Maybe he was never taught the art of conversation over coffee or drinks. Maybe he is too shy to strike up a conversation with a stranger. Perhaps the thought of an afternoon nap scares him. Could it be that joining in on some of the games is too childish for him? Or a seminar too educational? I think maybe he wants a rock wall or a skating rink.

I feel sorry that he didn't enjoy the finest ship in the fleet.

we have been on lots of cruises~ none with Princess line. First, they have a new cruise director,Stu Mac, he has been demoted to the Regal. We saw him 4 times. The nightly entertainers are good, food fair, its just that there was nothing to do in the day time. I read, I did speak to others who felt the same, we had two ladies with us this was their first cruise, they were disappointed also.At sea, movie theatre starts at 3:30 pm we had early seating .the nightly entertainment starts at 8pm . we could stay in the cabin and catch it the next day, but we did'nt go on a cruise to stay in cabin. They had karaoke twice for one hour each time. we played casino, just roamed ship watching others sleeping in the lounges, since there was'nt any activity going on there, Pizzaria was good . Service was good also. Our room D168 had 25 drawers ! Good storage!Thay played Trivia a few times and we did that. One day they had Getting Grandmas together for bragging on the grandkids! They had dance lessons a few times but it was early in the am. I admit it is more laid back than the others we have been on. The tours we wanted and tried to book as soon as we got our booklet, were already sold out. What they don't tell you is right off the ship in port there are lots of tour buses to take you at a cheaper rate than the ships offer. Ketchikan was my fave, choice and price . It was coolish 60s but we had on light jackets. Mendenhall Glacier was cold tho wear gloves. Take rain gear also for all ports. Also on port days the movies started at 10am. On our other cruises, we had to pick and choose activities not doing some because they were at the same time. Not so here. Hope this helps.Let me know how yours went. :p My eamil onthego2005@hotmail.com

Sue,

I am going on the 9/15 cruise, please tell me what was boring about the cruise.

Thanks,

I tried to update my profile but could not. Sorry...onthego2005@hotmail.com We just heard a lot of negativity from other passengers, about the lack of things to do as compared to our other trips...but the lectures were boring!!! All on self help the speaker was all monotone either people got up and left or were asleep ! Food fair, service good, nightly entertainment good. Just maybe too long a cruise for us...The ports were great, would not take anything for what we saw.

I went to her profile and tried to email her and it says this user is not accepting emails.......

Sorry you didn't have a great cruise. I just realized this is the cruise we cancelled due to family commitments. How was the weather??? Wildlife??

When we did our 18 day cruise on the Regal, it was to sunny climes and warm waters and that makes a huge difference in how we spent our days. We took part in many outdoor activities. We had 13 sea days and like I said in my last post, we were busy the entire trip.

It is always a shame when any vacation doesn't meet your expectations. Maybe the next one will be way better. :D

You don't mean good ole Stu? Folks, please let me know if these are one in the same. good ole Stu has been assistant Cruise Director on most of the cruise I've been on and has been fabulous. If this is the same Stu, it isn't a demotion. Also, by your implication, your ship the Regal is lower than other ships and most have found this just isn't the case.

We were on a 15-day cruise to/from Hawaii from LAX with 10 sea days, and I wasn't bored for a minute. As a matter of fact, I didn't have the time to do everything I wanted to do.

People's concept of "boring" is as subjective as food. (Remember the guy who posted that his honeymoon would be ruined if he couldn't see a football game?) I don't go to the entertainment other than the Adagio lounge for the piano before dinner so I can't comment about it but it sounds like you based your opinion of the Regal Princess primarily on how good the shows and entertainers were. There is usually sooooooooo much more to see and do!

Now that the Royal has gone to P&O, the Regal is my favorite cruise ship.

If I was to sail Alaska I would be entertained during the day by the scenery!! You mention that you were cold and only had light jackets, did it not occur to you that you were going somewhere that just might be cold and wet? I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your cruise, however I think it might have more to do with the cruise itself (Alaska vs. Caribbean) than the actual ship.

Crusing Sue,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the cruise. When I cruise I will take your observations into consideration. As you can see I have been on the Regal before and do enjoy her size but this size ship is not for everybody - which is fine.

I hope you continue to enjoy cruising!

I guess I'm confused by this comment. Who is "they"? Your Travel Agent? The cruiseline? Did you expect the ship to promote (and support) independent tour operators with no relationship to the cruiseline? It sounds as though you didn't do any research about where you were going or your TA did a very poor job of providing you with the information you needed.

I am thinking I also know "Good ole Stu" but I may be mistaking him for "Good ole Shoe" who was in "Wag The Dog"

I also need to comment on the "they didn't tell us".................I for one wrote a review of our Alaska trip last May and mentioned the Big Blue Bus in Juneau that takes you to Mendenhall Glacier for 5 bucks each way. I was aware of it because I read someone else's review of Alaska and THEY mentioned the Big Blue Bus. While I don't expect my prose and style to be so good that my every word is remembered, it would just be nice if folks would READ and SPEND TIME here on Cruise Critic doing research prior to their trip. That may give them a good idea of what the might enjoy, how to go about doing it and what the may need to bring, wear, etc. I bet it would also cut down on the complaining...................well ok, the dissapointments.

I am sorry you did not have a good cruise. Before I ever go on any cruise I do alot of searching myself. Your TA should have told you some things but it is you who needs to do alot of searching yourself. I go through magazines, phamplets, searching this CC board etc. Hopefully your next cruise will be more to your liking.

"People's concept of "boring" is as subjective as food."

So true. And I remember that "My honeymoon is ruined" guy. I guess his wife-to-be will have to remember not to schedule anything during football games.

I guess if going to lectures is a high priority for you, then that's what you need to check before booking a specific cruise. If you love hairy back contests, then consider Carnival. If you feel a cruise is ruined if everyone on board isn't wearing tuxes on formal night, you need to find out which ships attract that type or require that dress code.

Personally, we try to be as laid back as possible. On our Alaskan cruise last summer, while hubby and girl were in the covered pool, I was on deck chair reading a chick lit book. I think we took part in just one scheduled activity (a trivia contest) and one party (Captains Circle).

I had researched the weather so I probably overpacked (woolies) for us. We did bring our heaviest coats which was helpful on glacier watching morning. The rest of the time it was in the 60s and mostly rainy. The day before we stayed in Seattle where they were having warmer than usual weather. You just need to be prepared but layering is recommended.

The CC boards are very helpful before you start packing. In fact, whenever someone asks about weather here, I try to post info (often people get shocked that it's not 80ish and sunny all year round, especially not in June).

And one thing about the excursions. Yes, the info you get on the ship will try to steer you toward Princess-approved stores (we usually just go beyond those and find better bargains) and excursions booked thru the ship. There are some valid reasons to book thru the ship (there have been some good threads on this subject). Sometimes you can luck out and find something cheaper ahead of time by your own research or by going to the local companie at the pier. Frankly last summer, the one excursion we booked thru the ship was much better than the one we booked spur on the moment at the pier. Most of the time, we make our own tour.
