Just off Liberty from SJ!

So we go on the 04/12 sailing and should plan formal nights for Tuesday day at sea and Friday day at St Kitts? What about the past guest or Gold, Diamond andPlatinum party do you know when that was scheduled?

On my last cruise out of San Juan with this itinerary (2 years ago), there was a large number of Puerto Rican families on board which was speculated to be due to resident discounts at port locations in an attempt to fill the ship to capacity. Did you happen to notice if this was the case on your cruise?

 

I am sure if someone asked if there were a lot of black people or white people on a cruise someone would have said something by now. We are cruising from a port in Puerto Rico so an educated person would assume there would be people from PR. Did you happen to ask all of the Spanish people on board where they were from or did you just speculate that all Spanish people on the ship were Puerto Rican. Just an FYI, if you couldn't tell, you made a very offensive statement.

There was absolutely nothing offensive about the question. It would be no different to ask if the passengers on a cruise ship leaving Galveston were primarily from Texas. What is offensive is referring to Puerto Ricans as Spanish. Spaniards come from Spain. Puerto Ricans consider themselves Puerto Rican or Latino.

I think, St Kitts was missed for anything, but the weather. The weather was like any other day. Probably some bean counter have figured out that keeping everybody on board, buying drinks and gambling, improves the bottom line.

At 2 of the nights there was no entertainment program, just the usual bands playing.

 

Thank you for your insight. It is good to know that no other cruise line cancels ports of call or changes the itinerary based on the weather. Based on you excellent observation, I wonder why Walmart, oops I mean Carnival doesn't just cancel all of their ports? Since their scheme is to create higher bar sales and casino sales. You do realize that Carnival has to refund all taxes, port fees and excursion costs (if booked through Carnival) when a port is missed? If you don't like Carnival, I wonder why you even bother to comment on a social board pertaining to Carnival?

I am a Brooklyn native who's family is from Puerto Rico. I have booked this Cruise and many from PR because it's an awesome trip. Puerto Rican people will be on the ship and will be dressed up every night. After reading your comment I feel you may be concerned, don't be. If you are, perhaps this isn't the ship for you. Also FYI, my cousin who lives in PR booked this trip and paid the same price I did.

There was an influx of Puerto Ricans on my specific cruise, as there was a large family of 20-something in a big group, and there was also a resident rate in this cruise. Also, there were many from Argentina, Brazil, and Columbia. A good amount of the boat was of Latino culture. We also met people from Canada, England, Mexico, Switzerland and China. Did it bother me? nothing extreme. Just a different group of people. Yes it was different, and yes it felt a little weird at first, but I made some life-long friends from this cruise who live in Puerto Rico. It was just like cruising from Miami. A bunch of people from all over gathering for a week to take in the sun. Didn't really effect me. But I will get into some incident pertaining to this topic in my review.

Just because it isn't offensive to you does not mean it is not offensive. Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain and most citizens do have Spanish heritage. Thanks for participating!

Maybe the comment was not offensive to you but it most certainly was offensive to others. I have never seen anybody ask if a cruise was filled with a lot of Floridians or Texans because the price was cheaper for them.

For goodness sake, it's a cruise! A person will find people from Canada, USA, Mexico, US Territories, Europe, Asia, Africa etc. In other words, global human life forms will be on board. Who cares?!?! I sure don't. Anyway....Looking forward to the full ship review.

Sorry, thought I would bring up another inflammatory discussion to distract the conversation away from the ethnic breakdown of cruisers on the Liberty.:D

 

Can't wait for the actual cruise review here! I'll be sailing this itinerary July 19th!

I'm really curious to hear about your experience, disembarking in Barbados, and it seems like you've done the Wednesday-Wednesday cruise from there too. I enjoyed Barbados and I'd love to do a cruise from there. Typically, how many people board the ship in Barbados?

 

No problem.

 

I can't put an exact figure on those cruising out of Barbados but it is significant. In addition to Barbados and the other islands, quite a few people from Europe in general and the UK in particular board in Barbados.

I really don't think I was playing. I doubt you have a lot of friends from Puerto Rico. I live in Florida, where we have a large percentage of Puerto Ricans. And to call them Spanish is offensive to them. They are US citizens, and consider themselves Puerto Rican or Latino.

I am very excited about your review. I think this is one of Carnival's best Caribbean itineraries and I do not believe you could have as great of a chance to see so many different islands and meet so many great people from so many different places at such a great price. There are sooo many different price structures as all cruises fill and that it is possible at all to get to cruise this itinerary as a solo for around 1000 or less dollars sometimes with air and often in an outside cabin of some sort is amazing to me. Then one could shop hard for air which is big for many of us and really make it a bigger trip....you can see Puerto Rico and all those places..staying a few days before or after...it is simply a wow vacation. I adore any chance to learn more about this trip and thanks for your enthusiasm op.

 

I am especially interested in affordable plan to take a few little tours and rest at a beach or two and yes buy a few crafts. My plan is to be extremely grateful to be able to do this for around 2500 to 3000 including air and some days in Puerto Rico...from Montana....this can be done and I had friends of folks who went to PR for years from Montana and LOVED it.....I think my folks even joined them once...so excited to go some day and I LOVE armchair travel reviews...thank you, Sarah

 

PS LOL..I am a new 55 year old "senior"..sometimes there are deals that way too on this trip...Thank God...LOL..I thought or at least read on some new menus ...eventually the menu will have some chilled soups...I too LOVE those and sorry they were missing....Sarah

 

Oh i hate it when 55 is "old" now...I am glad I am tale end of the "boomers" who will not put up well with that judgement too..and there are tons of us...i HATE JUDGEMENT OF ANY GROUP AND WE ALL CAN BE GREAT OR NERDS ON A HOURLY BASIS...

 

I have enjoyed nice restaurants with and without table cloths...but prefer them on a ship..LOL..but oh well...did your glasses slip around on the tables in humidity and rock and roll of ship...or indoors was it ok..LOL? On this trip I bet a little room service will be very appreciated...go go go...LOL.

Hope you still do the review. We're going on this cruise 4/19 and so I hope you can get started on it soon.

It often happens when we want to enjoy the darn thing the most..had a time with mine in Oregon extended stay this year....take your time and thanks for still wanting to do it...sarah
