Iluvcruising2 Posted April 15, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Hi, For an upcoming cruise at the end of the year, we will be calling at Civitavecchia for the day, 8am to 6pm. It is a Monday. The plan is to hire a car and do a self drive. However, we found out that a good number of sights are closed on Monday. For example, Tarquinia and Ostia Antica. Wonder if anybody has ideas for us, in terms of self-drive. We have spent some days in Rome before, so we don't plan to go to Rome. Many thanks! euro cruiser Posted April 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 15, 2015 In Tivoli Villa Adriana is open on Mondays, but not Villa d'Este. You could go to Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoregio. Or you could do a drive up the coast, checking out Monte Argentario and Talamone. These places will likely be pretty quiet in December but I find beach areas in the off season lovely. For the truly unusual you could check out the hilltop town of Calcata, which became an artist's colony in the 70's: http://www.calcata.info/enindex.html Viterbo is an easy drive, although the museums there will also be closed on Mondays.
