lilsquirrel80 Posted April 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 23, 2015 My mom and I are sailing on NCL dawn in April 2016 (I know, earlier planing) and are going to Belize, roatan, Cozumel, and Costa Maya. We are looking for excursion ideas for each port. My mom is interested in ruins and shopping. I am interested in snorkeling, beach access, and maybe some shopping. I should also mention that my mom has limited walking ability due to knee issues and she will be 71 at the time of sailing.
Rare crewsweeper Posted April 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Of the ports, I suggest Belize for the ruins. You can look at both Altun Ha and Xunantunich where ship sponsored excursions are available. Read some of the tour comments, but I'd say Altun ha would be more adaptable for your Mom to get around at. But remember Belize is a tender port, long tender ride. Snorkeling and beach access is better on Roatan. Look for excursions or day pass places on West Bay, Tabayana Beach. you'll dock in Coxen Hole. Shopping is better in Cozumel, NCL usually docks at the downtown pier, Punta Langosta, and there's a small mall there plus you're only a couple of blocks from the main plaza with lots of shopping and restaurant options. Costa Maya is another beach place, but limited snorkeling. Look into Blue Kay, Tropicante, Pez Quadro, YaYa Beach on the Cost Amaya board for good beach places . But Costa Maya has access to some good Yucatan ruins. There are ship excursions which may assist with your Mom getting to and from. However, native Choice offers great more personalized ruins tours. You just have to get to they pick up point outside the cruise center which may be too long of a walk for your Mom.
