michelle028 Posted April 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Hi everyone, Wanted to know if anyone has gone to the public beaches in Cannes. I'm not sure whether I should spend some time at the beaches here or in Mallorca. We are on a port intensive cruise so it would be nice to relax on a beach at least once on the trip. Any input would be appreciated! Ps. Does it compare at all to the beaches in the Caribbean?
Rare Hlitner Posted April 27, 2015 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2015 Lets start out with a broad statement. There are few beaches in all of mainland Europe that compare to even the average Caribbean beach! As to Cannes, we have stayed in the city a few times and the Plage du Midi is usually our beach of choice when we just want to walk to a beach from our hotel (or from the cruise tender pier). That particular beach is pretty decent for a Riviera beach (many of which are full of pebbles and rocks) as it is sandy and free. Its a good beach if you simply want to toss your towel in the sand and relax on the beach or swim in the sea. However, the beaches on Mallorca are far superior in nearly every way. You have everything from the long, sandy, and oft crowded Playa de Palma (with lots of facilities nearby) to near deserted beaches. On Mallorca the water is clean (not always true in Cannes) and the sea wonderful for swimming. If we had to make a choice of a beach day between Mallorca and Cannes.....Mallorca would win out without any hesitation. Hank
