junetraveler2014 Posted May 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Hi all, Just been informed we won't have phone coverage for our business while on Summit to Bermuda end of May. Just signed up for Verizon International and well aware of charges just quite concerned about reception for in coming and out going calls. Has anyone received calls on your cell while on board and was the reception good? Thanks for your answer in advance. Gary
sasset Posted May 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2015 We had great reception transatlantic.
Illyria Posted May 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2015 The only cell reception in the middle of the ocean will be coming from ship's towers (for $2.49/min), and quality of the signal can literally vary hour by hour as the position of the satellites changes. junetraveler2014 Posted May 5, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted May 5, 2015 Thank you both for your help. That is what I thought, but was not sure. Good when in range of satelite. Thanks
sasset Posted May 6, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 6, 2015 We added an AT&T cruise ship plan for $30. 50 minutes and then $1 a minute over the first 50. No data. It's compatible with Celebrity, RCCL and Azimara. As long as the phone displayed 'Cellular At Sea' it was active. There were other plans which included text and data, the 50 minutes was still the talk limit. If you are close enough to shore to pick up a tower it's not active. Texasopa Posted May 6, 2015 #6 Share Posted May 6, 2015 I also used AT&T cell and text plan. Had no problems at all.
