Carnival Victory state rooms

We are thinking of doing the Carnival Victory, yes I understand it is an older ship,but that is OK.:)

 

We are planning on doing a 5 day cruise to the Bahamas.

 

If you have been on the Victory within the past year, and have either had an inner or ocean view room, and could afford either one, which one would you recommend for a 5 day cruise?

 

Another thought, if you had a port hole room, what was that like?

After having a balcony my last 2 cruises I would stick with that from here on out! I sailed on the victory 3 years ago and had a balcony and I actually sail on her next week! But since this cruise was a last min decision and our wedding being the following week...we opted for an interior room just to keep costs down.

 

But for our cruise in October we have a balcony. So its really personal preference...but id stick to balcony...

 

Have you had one before?

Had an interior on Victory this past January. It was my first time in an interior and I really can't imagine ever spending the money again for ocean view or balcony. I was in the room to shower, change or sleep. Period.

We just had an oceanview room last week it was nice and roomy even with three of us in there. I liked that it was more of a window then a porthole, however if you don't keep the blinds closed during the day it can get rather warm in the room.

It just dawned on me and I'm going to ask.

 

If you ate in the MDR, was it easier for you to walk (we did this on the Splendor) your deck, and go to the nearest elevator/steps, and either go up or down to your dining room, depending if the dining room was below, or above you?

 

The reason I ask this, it seems like so many times when going to the MDR, we have to walk through casinos, and all that smoke, and we don't like doing that, if we can avoid it.

We just got off the Victory last Thursday. We have not sailed with Carnival for 10 years prior. I was so skeptical because it was an older ship. We have been alternating our sailings over these past 10 years on RCCL & NCL and sailing on all their newer ships. The only reason we did Carnival was cause we had the week off , we were traveling alone without our 3 children and couldn't find a good deal on the other cruise lines we normally sailed on. Originally we had booked an ocean view on deck 2, but 2 weeks prior received an upsell call to an Ocean Suite and could not pass up the offer to move on up.

I have to admit I was very impressed with the whole overall Carnival Victory experience . The ship is older, but really kept up well. Everything went so smoothly from check in to check out. We also had purchased FTTF, which I accidentally stumbled across and just bought it cause it seemed like such a commodity and something not too easy to come by. For the amount of time you spend in your room I think room preference is a personal preference, which only you can decide what's best for your needs. Having an ocean suite though was by far an awesome experience and it's going to be very hard to go back to any other stateroom . I stayed in all categories , but for us I do believe after this experience we will never not have anything less than a balcony stateroom.. Nothing like waking up to the sea air and sitting out there at night under the stars. Enjoy your cruise, I'm sure it will be great!

I just talked with my friend just a few minutes ago (before I seen your posting here)to see if she still wanted to do it, as she knew I had just been to the places that the Victory will be going to last month. She said it was up to me, and when I went last month, I wasn't able to see/do everything that I might be able to do this time in September.

 

I think you have "helped" me think more of doing this Victory cruise in September. :)

It is not an issue if you have been assigned to Atlantic dining room (midship),if assigned to Pacific which is way aft, the galley does not allow walking all the way down. We always walked all the way aft on deck two and came up stairs, or down. This helped also walking in high heels for formal night as not walking on slippery tile as much.keep in mind if you have assigned dining time on first night and formal nights, you will encounter a backup in stairwell, or difficulty getting off elevator. Otherwise it works great avoiding the photography stations. On Victory, you can also traverse through Internet cafe and cigar bar (empty usually) and get to dexk four or go down stairs there.

Don't forget to check out secret deck areas way forward on decks 6,7 the doors will take you to a great photo area,place to see stars. Just don't let doors catch you or slam- it is a wind tunnel with the two sets of doors.

We were assigned to the Atlantic dining room. It's pretty much mid ship on Deck 3&4 . Casino is on deck 5 I believe . We stayed on Deck 7 took the elevator down to 3 and we did not have to walk through the casino at all. I think that's another reason I liked this ship. On NCL's newer ships their casinos are not enclosed and you have to pass through the area to get to the restaurants . My kids & I would hold our breath walking through! So on the Victory you should be fine.

The Victory was our first cruise and it was an AWESOME itinerary and a great time. Our room was a balcony, and I think the room choice may have dictated how much time we spent in the room. When we are in an interior or oceanview type room, we tend to spend less time in there, and more time seeing the sites, while a balcony room allows us to enjoy the peace a quiet (and typically shade) while enjoying the ocean view and breezes. We have a Balcony suite on a Holland America ship for a quick 3-day cruise coming up in a little over a week, so that will help us to decide the importance of balcony for ourselves. In summary, I think the experience is what you make of it... I tend to enjoy the quiet, but not to waste the awesome views.

I do not know what FTTF is. We are traveling with another couple, can you explain to me what it is and how much?

It would be found under shore excursions and basically you buy it for one person only and all in the same cabin get it. So only buy one for your cabin!! Basically it will give you priority boarding, your stateroom is assured to be ready when you board, luggage is delivered fairly quicker, ( mine wasn't) and you get priority tendering and they have a line for FTTF at guest services to speed up your services there, and priority disembarkation. I found it total worth it. They're only limited amount sold per sailing. So if you see it act fast if it's available and you want it.
