girlsjustwannacruise Posted May 26, 2015 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2015 We will be sailing on the Carnival Dream and my husband was wondering what time the casinos might open. The dream sails from New Orleans and my understanding is that we will be on the River for several hours. Anyone know???

xeroxme Posted May 26, 2015 #3 Share Posted May 26, 2015 Casino will be open once you hit international water. If the river isn't or doesn't become international water it will be closed.
BigB0882 Posted May 26, 2015 #4 Share Posted May 26, 2015 That is not true. The casino is open within an hour of setting sail. I would say anywhere between 30 minutes and an hour. You do not have to wait until you are off the river or in International waters. I have sailed the Dream and the Elation out of New Orleans and was on the Dream as recent as April of this year. welldone60 Posted May 26, 2015 #5 Share Posted May 26, 2015 When we sailed on the Sunshine from New Orleans, the casino opened about an hour after we sailed, long before we were in open water.

Great news. I have not seen them do that anywhere else. Tampa is a long boat ride out and they didn't open till we hit international waters. That should make the cruiser happy Edited May 26, 2015 by xeroxme
Davey Wavey Posted May 26, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 26, 2015 The slots open between 30 minutes and an hour after leaving port. Table games when in international waters, usually one hour after port but my experience is around two hours in most ports. Tampa is the big exception as the long distance to the mouth of the bay means the casino didn't open until 8pm and 12am (ship was almost standing still on the whole trip out of the bay) on my two cruises from there. springs741 Posted May 26, 2015 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2015 I would think the difference between Florida and Louisiana would be the difference in their respective gambling laws. There are "boats" on the river in Louisiana that never leave the dock but because they are floating they meet the requirements for river gambling. I am not sure what the laws are in Florida. Soupy.Sailor Posted May 27, 2015 #10 Share Posted May 27, 2015 Riverboat gambling is legal in Louisiana and many of the "riverboats" never leave the dock. The casino will open about an hour after leaving the dock and I think they only reason they wait that long is to avoid some taxes.
