Planning a Canada/east coast cruise for 2016. Debating on route, but thinking the Quebec to Boston or Boston to Quebec. A few questions-

1) It would be less expensive to fly RT to Boston, has anyone ever rented a car in Canada and returned in US? Besides the cost any other cons?

2) Second option is to fly into Montreal, again less expensive and less time (coming from the west coast) spend the night and either take the train or rent a car and drive to Quebec. a) any idea how far the train station is from the cruise port b) anyone know of a rental car drop off near the cruise port?

Thanks for any feedback or any other suggestions.

Sometimes the cruise lines have different port calls on the Boston to Quebec run than from the Quebec to Boston run.

We are renting a car in Quebec to drive to NYC from Budget at 1100 Blvd Rene Levesque (QC0) and the drop fee is included in daily rate. We are renting an intermediate car for $74 per day. They will pick up from the port or reimburse you for the taxi ride.

Taxi fare from the Quebec station to the pier was under $8.

What dates are you looking at? If you go too early or late, the fall foliage won't be as you might expect. Look at all the car companies for prices. I looked at renting Boston to Quebec (National I think) and it was very reasonable. A much more appealing option than flying or bus.

thanks for the feedback, having never been to Quebec was not sure of what location was best or company, I will check in budget for a car rental at the location suggested as would prefer to fly in and out of Boston.

I read somewhere, I believe here on CC, that it is less expensive to fly into Canada than out of it. That aside, we are flying to Montreal this year because we wanted to stay there a couple of days before beginning our cruise, then flying home from Boston afterward.

We had planned to take the train from Quebec City to Montreal last year at the conclusion of our cruise, but at that time the train did not have a baggage compartment, and we did not care to lug our suitcases aboard the train. We instead chose to take the bus to Montreal, and it worked out great. It was cheaper than the train and took about the same amount of time.

Plattsburg n.y direct flights between Boston and Plattsburg and much cheaper .Taxes on Canadian outbound are very high. You will need to rent a car from Plattsburg to Montreal or Montreal to Plattsburg. You may check Greyhound to get to and from Montreal
