Just read this info on above link. Starting in July Vietnam will waive single entry visas to visitors from UK France Spain Germany and Italy in a bid to increase tourism.

Good news indeed for Brits. :)

But perhaps not too many Brit cruisers.

 

Because both sources say this is for single-entry visas only.

So on the presumption that two ports of call, eg Saigon & Halong Bay - even if consecutive - count as two entries (? am I right?) then the ship-issued visa is still required.

I don't think so. I'm would think this visa would cover several ports so long as you don't visit another country meanwhile.
