Tell me about the Triumph

Some things you cannot change are the ship went into service in 1999. Besides that, we've sailed aboard her seven times, and had one or two minor things they corrected quickly.

Here are a collection of photos from most recent trips, one of those on June 1.

We have sailed Triumph 16 times including many back to backs one of witch was 21 days, these were before & after the fire, always had a great time.

The crew from the Captain on down are the best in the fleet.

The only thing I ever saw wrong was dirty windows in the lido.

  • 3 weeks later...

I just got of the Triumph, and I won't cruise on it again. People have different views, likes and dislikes. Here are my negative views. By the way. This was my 7th cruise, so I had something to compare too. Not the worst ship, but not the best that I have been on.

1. The entire 5th deck, smells like cigarette smoke. If you are a non smoker, you might not appreciate that. The 5th deck, where there are many sitting spots, is not that long. At night, the sitting spots are blocked by photographers all along the deck.

a. Smoking is allowed in the club where they play Latin music, and the doors are open. It's located aft next to the Rio lounge where the comedians perform.

b. Smoking is allowed in the Casino. They have the Casino lounge where many activities happen, but it smells like cigarette smoke. The Casino is wide open.

c. There was a very nice lounge area out on deck, with nice easy chairs, possibly with shade at certain times. Guess what. Smoker's area.

By the way. I am an ex-smoker, 25 years smoke free.

2. The aft pool is open to everyone. No adult pool on this ship. For example. On the Conquest, the after pool is/was adults only. I don't remember if there was one on the Magic, but I don't remember any kids there. Also no serenity deck.

3. No shaded areas for loungers in pool areas, or in any other part of the ship. If you are a sun worshiper, then you are o.k. For example. The Magic has umbrellas in the after pool and other areas. I could lounge with a drink and enjoy being out there with a drink in my hand. On the Triumph, we sat at a table to stay in the shade. Don't get me wrong. I did go in the pool on sea days, and had a bloody mary or pina colada. But sitting is not the same as lounging.

4. On the night the magician was to perform, one of the cast members got sick. They cancelled the show. They filled it in with a stupid game show called love and marriage. Other than that, they had no real backup. No comedy shows or anything else. I don't know if the Magician still did the late night burlesque show. But on the nights of the Las Vegas shows, they did have several performances of comedy shows, but nothing when the entertainment depended on one show.

5. On the night of the talent show, there were no other meaningful shows, if anything. They did have the poolside party at 11:pm. The talent show only had 3 performers. A ship's singer, filled in with a song at the beginning and at the end. The performers were really good singers, backed up by the band. I don't know why they didn't have any other performers. I imagine that it was because, if the band didn't know your song or music for dance, you couldn't perform. I have performed in talent shows on other ships, where I, and other performers, could use their own tracks, or play their own guitars. Before you jump on me. I had no plans to do a talent show on this cruise, that's why I didn't take my tracks with me.

However, if you are a party person, you might have a lot of fun at the bars. Again, before you jump on me, I do drink, when at poolside, bars, or at a show.

Other than that, this was a family cruise, and I had a great time with the family. We did Uxmal Mayan ruins and Sancho's Beach. Great excursions and great times.

The same can be said about any ship (Breeze, Sunshine, Dream). That being said, since it is your first cruise you have absolutely nothing to compare it to, so it'll be wonderful. June is, however, summer peak season so it may be crowded (FYI).

Don't worry, your first cruise will make you both very happy!

Very true. Our first cruise was on the Elation, and it was the best time we ever had. We really enjoyed it. We couldn't believe the great treatment we received throughout the ship. We were very impressed with the experience.

Oh Dear... We are cruising on this ship on Aug 24th. This will be our second cruise and first on Carnival. We cruised on RCI. It will be interesting to compare the two.

What are some of the good things to do and about this ship?

Don't worry. I will be on that sailing as well. Start your cruise by dancing on the Lido deck at the Sail Away Party. You'll have fun & will be in the videos that they show on your cabin TV. It's a great way to get your party on!. BTW, I am on your Roll Call.-cheers,-arleen
