New to carnival - a few questions

I'm planning on sailing the magic next April and I have a few questions.

Is camp carnival open the first night? (I was hoping I would be able to book the steak restaurant the first night without the kids)

Are tours of the kitchen etc. available for free? (Did this on celebrity and really liked it)

Is there a place to get pastries/ desserts mid day?

Is smoking allowed anywhere other than the casino ( looking for places to avoid)

Camp is only open the first night for the Family Fun party and registration. There is after hours babysitting available after 10pm the first night, however. Looks like you may have to book the Steakhouse another night.

They no longer offer tours of the galley, but you can tour during the Behind the Fun tour, which costs $$.

There are smoking sections on each ship, usually on the open decks on one side of the ship.

Hope that helps!

Darn we did chefs table and we didnt get to see a demo. Great meal though and couldnt believe how hectic the galley was during dinner service

It was my wife's birthday when we did the chef's table. She was picked to make the WCMC. After the demo, the chef autographed the chef's hat and gave it to her as a souvenir.
