michelle028 Posted August 10, 2015 #1 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Hi all, Quick question - on my NCL account it says I can pre-pay gratituities and its quoted in Cdn dollars since I booked in Cdn dollars. Normally I always pay for my gratuities in USD when I cruise at the end, but the CDN dollar being so low it may be an advantage if I pay before I go? But...If I wait to pay for it on the cruise ship - will they charge it CDN or USD? Canadians - what are you doing?
realtrip Posted August 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 10, 2015 I paid it before leaving home. I also bought some OBC . If wanted, you could also pay for your excursions before leaving home too. Anything paid for on the ship will be in US $$ which is quite disadvantageous for us right now.
Saraphine Posted August 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) ^^^ This. I would much rather pay the $1.11 exchange rate NCL is charging rather than $1.34 my bank is charging me now. Ouch!!! Everything will be paid for (and OBC purchased) before I set foot on a plane in order to avoid having to pay at the end of my cruise with the Visa and getting slammed with the awful exchange rate. CanadaJulie Posted August 10, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Ditto to what everyone said. OBC can be bought to cover your purchases too, NCL rate is 11%. Apparently, you can cash it out at the casino for a 3% fee which far beats the current CDN$ exchange rate (11% + 3% is still way better than 32% my bank charges !) michelle028 Posted August 10, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted August 10, 2015 Thx for the replies everyone! Just pre-paid for them now, one less cost to worry about!
paradiseawaitsme Posted August 10, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2015 I pre-payed. We pay as much as we can before cruise because NCL rate is much better than banks.
michelle028 Posted August 11, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted August 11, 2015 Hi Everyone, So I pre-paid gratuities and it shows in MYNCL account but I didn't receive an email. Should I be worried? I don't want to end up paying twice when I get to the ship.
SA71 Posted August 12, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 12, 2015 We pre paid grats a few weeks ago. Didn't get an email but I notice today when we did final payment that our invoice from ncl now says "pre paid svc chg" at the top and in the breakdown of specific charges it is shown.
