Easy-Silversea?

Interesting that Stelios invited Manfredi Lefebvre to the launch of EasyCruise earlier this year! Caught "on camera" and looking sheepish.

I know they're neighbours in Monaco, but surely not a joint venture in mind?

.................... the plot becomes much more interesting.

Manfredi Lefebvre joined a group of German bankers on EasyCruise 1 to discuss Stelios's finance requirements for a second ship. It would be a strange departure from the Silversea end of the industry.

The truth is often more bizarre than the imagination.

The meeting took place in the restaurant area, with the bankers and our Man Manfredo in their suits with people wandering in and out in their bikinis and trunks.

I suppose they aren't thinking of leasing him one of the two small ones? No that's too daft an idea ............

Wouldn't it be more practical, in terms of both economics and marketing, for EasyCruise to repeat what it's already done? (I.e., obtain another of the small ex-Renaissance ships and do the same kind of refit).

................. slightly easier than that. His father has the sister ship to the ex-casino Stelios bought as a private vessel to the one he has. They are identical and are often parked side by side in Monaco, one being orange the other black and white.

The economics might not be so daft in possilby acquiring a small SS ship depending on the acquisition costs and the way they're framed. Service is where he'll cut costs and as long as it's close to 100% occupancy during carribiean months I would have thought a profit would be feasible.

I cannot think of a plausible reason for why M. would be there.

  • 7 months later...

For those that are interested in these things it turned out that perhaps my somewhat bizarre suggestion turned out to have legs:

"EASYCRUISE signed a letter of intent with Neorion Holdings to build two cruise ships at Neorion's two shipyards in Greece. Each ship would hold 500 passengers and would introduce the EasyCruise concept to the Greek islands and other parts of the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, Florida, the Bahamas and Dubai. The deal includes an option for two additional ships. The line also named a CEO. EasyCruise Chairman Stelios Haji-Ioannou gave the nod to Gwyn Hughes, a former executive director of P&O Cruises who now runs his own strategy and communications consultancy firm. "

Not being familiar with EasyCruises, I went to their website. They offer a cabin that sleeps 4 and has bunk beds. Where were these guys when I was in College? Kids have it better these days.

As for SS fitting into that mix, that is very strange.

This just in:

SilverSea evidently struck a deal with EasyCruises that will involve EasyCruise crew training the crew on SilverSea Ships. Insiders say the program was started on the Whisper in March, 2006.

Reviews have been mixed.
