Snorkeling on our own?

My husband and I will be in Barbados on Oct 5 and are interested in snorkeling possibly on our own so we wouldn't have any time constraints. Any ideas as to were we should go and the best way to get there would be appreciated. We would love to see turtles and I read on one post that some of the local beaches had people to take you out but didn't mention saftey? cost? etc.. Thank you in advance. Also what is our best bet for transportation to a few different places?:)

We've snorkeled on our own at Folkstone. Best method of transportation is taxi. I don't know if there's anyone there who will take you out to the turtles, but the snorkeling is pretty good.

Yes at Folkestone, you will find Michael who will look after your snorkelling needs. He did that for our family a short while ago.
