Mcddcruise22116 Posted September 6, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2015 Thanks upfront for any suggestions! Going in February 2016 on Norwegian dawn with a 6 yr old and 2.5 yr old. Cozumel, Roatan, harvest caye and costa maya are our ports. Reading Roatan reviews makes me a tad nervous...thinking about glass bottom boat excursion and getting back on ship early. Any thoughts on that or recommendations of other things to do for 2 & 6 year old?! Harvest caye will be a beach day and Cozumel we will explore the shopping close to the port. Any other suggestions are welcome and greatly appreciated! Thanks again :)
2Okies Posted September 10, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I would suggest you contact George Lemus at Roatan Cusom Tours. We stayed on the island for a week last year and we used his driving services all week. He has nice clean vehicles, and he is very reasonable, and a very nice person. He takes pride in his work. He has a web page and a Facebook page where you can contact him. He speaks very good English. I would suggest a trip to Gumbalimba park to see the monkeys. They are very friendly, and will sit on your shoulders. They have a beautiful insect exhibit, and a beach access too. There is a beautiful pool, and I believe a snack bar. But, I would ask to be taken to West Bay Beach not far away, and to be dropped off behind Bananarama resort. You can walk down a short road to West Bay (George will know where - and he would probably even escort you if you wanted). You will be at the beach which is very calm and shallow, and the kids would love the sand and water. If you walk left toward the black wall, and get in the water you will see fish right at the shore. Look for black iguanas on the black wall. If you like to snorkel THIS is the place to go! But, kids would love the fish here. The beach is gorgeous. Don't miss it. Don't be afraid of Roatan. George would take good care of you. We are going back on a cruise in December, and have already made our arrangements with him. He is charging us $60 to take us to and from the beach. It might cost you a little more if you want to go to the park or anywhere else. He is very trustworthy. Check Roatan Custom Tours on Trip Advisor - 5 star. There are lots of restaurants to walk to up and down West Bay. We liked Beachers, Argentina Grill and Bananarama. haply Posted September 10, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 10, 2015 We are going on the Maya Key excursion in Roatan (Norwegian Dawn, Nov. 2015). We have a 4 and 8 year old and wanted something with minimal travel time. The ferry boat to Maya Key leaves right off of the dock (no bus rides/transfers). It is my understanding that the ferry runs every half hour (can return as early or late as wanted). In addition to the beach, they have a small zoo/animal sanctuary, sea lion encounter, pool, and snorkeling for adults right off of the beach. Look up the reviews here and on trip advisor. That's a great suggestion for cruisers with children.Short walk from the Coxen Hole pier.:) And there food selections would fit what most younger children like. RoadTripFanatic Posted September 10, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2015 I would recommend West Bay Beach. We started taking our daughter there when she was 4. She loved it. It's just a great beach to sit and relax and enjoy the water. The off shore snorkeling is the best I have ever seen.
