Cabs at Rotterdam port

Which ship? Most if not all large ships will attract taxis, right outside the terminal.

Walking to the tram/metro stop is just a mere 2 or 3 minutes, from there it's an easy ride to Rotterdam Centraal station and trains run frequently to Amsterdam Centraal (tickets are not time bound). There's a great thread somewhere about this same subject.

Taking a taxi all the way to Amsterdam and back is a waste of money, taxis are quite expensive over here. Let's say metro and train tickets may cost you 75 Euro and a taxi 250-300 Euro (roughly 300 USD).

Check out the Dutch railways (no advanced tickets, also see the archived thread) at http://www.ns.nl and the nation wide public transport planner http://www.9292.nl

I spent a lot of time researching a tour operator for our overnight cruise stop in Rotterdam but had no lot in my research. Fortunately we lucked onto an amazing taxi driver that negotiated a flat rate for taking us to the Hague and Delft on our first day and then picked us up again the next morning to go to Kinderdijk and the Fish Market and cube houses in Rotterdam.

Noa has lived in Rotterdam all his life and speaks perfect English (along with several other languages) and is a very nice, pleasant young man. His taxi is a very comfortable "mini bus" and is equipped with WIFI. His email is rodamtaxi@gmail.com and his phone number is 0031631365532.

I would highly recommend Noa for your transportation needs while visiting Rotterdam and feel very fortunate that we found him on our arrival in Rotterdam.

We will be cruising on the NCL Star . I had done my homework about the train, but did not remember about the metro . Glad that it is an easy walk. There are 4 of us and I

was concerned about time . Thanks for the info.

The metro stop is Wilhelminaplein (keyword in CC search if you're looking for older threads like http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1943269 ) , journey time on the metro is 6-7 minutes to Rotterdam Centraal Station. From exiting the terminal to walking up to the NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen/Dutch Railways) ticket booth or tourniquets is appr. 15-20 minutes.

You can pay 3 Euro cash to the driver per person each way or (and that would be easier/less hassle) order a Rotterdam Welcome Card for 10 Euro each (kids/65+ get a discount) online with unlimited travel on the Rotterdam public transport for 1 day with a disposable Public Transport Chip Card/OV Kaart.

http://www.ret.nl/en/service-and-sales/tickets-and-fares.html

https://en.rotterdam.info/visitors/special-offers/rotterdam-welcome-card/

The Rotterdam Centraal Station - Amsterdam Centraal Station leg will be 29,60 Euro each for a return 2nd class on the Intercity Direct (extra) fast train excluding a 2,30 Euro "toeslag"/fee for that type of train. Journey time is some 43 minutes versus 1.10 on a regular fast train (called intercity). No lay overs on both.

Your total would be around 160 Euro for the four of you on public transport.

(with no discounts, which frustrates me as getting a 40% discount on the railway is easy for the Dutch, you could load up the discount on your chip card or buy a paper ticket with discount at the booth and ask a student or senior who hopefully has a discount subscription to "travel together" or do it the formal way; get a 40% discount subscription for a month a 25 Euro and 7,50 Euro for a personal OV Chip Kaart to place the subscription on with no credit but to get a personal OV Chip Kaart you will need to have a Dutch adress etc.. and get the discount the really difficult way. With the Chip Kaart paying full train fare during non rush hours is stripping tourists who have no other options (in fare) and the NS knows that, they've made a perfect product for Amsterdam Airport Schiphol - Amsterdam Centraal including unlimited public transport in Amsterdam. But you will need to get of the train at Schiphol, go up to the booth (having long lines anytime of day) to buy that ticket. http://www.ns.nl/en/travellers/home#amsterdam-travel-ticket which ofcourse you can't order online and have it mailed to you, that would be too obvious as the NS probably really likes lines at their booths. The only thing that might work for you is the Groepsretour, that is an e-ticket for groups of 4 people and up. Could be that they only allow Dutch to use it as it has be personalized by name to "avoid abuse". But it won't suprise me if they will discontinue it in 2016.

Even the same nation wide day return tickets for say some 12-15 Euro each sold by third parties, which are a great succes everytime among the less frequent train travellers, require Dutch personal ID after too much people reselling them for a profit.

Long story short; the paper train tickets where much user friendlier than the current Chip Card system is for tourists. :)

Another long story short; keep the 160 in mind when getting quotes for a day cab. ;)

Could you give me a little advice please? We turn our car in on July 1 at the Rotterdam airport. I hope to have left our baggage at the Hilton hotel where we are staying. Ideas for getting from Rotterdam airport to Hilton and the next day to port in Rotterdam for a cruise Rotterdam to Boston. We will have 2 suitcases and 2-3 small items.

The Hilton - port leg is easy, just outside the hotel you will find the underground Stadhuis (cityhall) metro stop. Where line E towards Slinge will take you to metro stop Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina sq) in 4 minutes. From hotel to Stadhuis station is under 3 minutes, from Wilhelminaplein to the entrance of the port terminal building some 6 minutes. If you are able/fit to carry your own suitcases in one haul it's nothing more than a self embarkation from the hotel. :) Most, if not all, metro stations have lifts or escalators.

Rotterdam Airport is less frequented by public transport, there are connections without a layover/transfer from bus to metro but they end at Rotterdam Centraal Station (railway station), which the http://9292.nl/en/ planner tells you it's about 10 minute walk to the hotel. Which is doable if you enjoy a walk, not unsafe, it's the high rise/financial district.

I would walk it on a normal day but I might consider the service of a taxi when with two, being on a holiday and such. Public transport might cost you 5 Euro at most for two and some 15-20-max25 Euro (wild guess) for a taxi.

Isn't there an alternative to turn in your rental, Rotterdam Airport is one of the smaller (regional would be an insult to their growth the last years..) airports, Rotterdam, with her city size might offer more convenient downtown locations?
