Verizon cell/smartphone service

We'll be there on the island in less than two months. How is Verizon cell/smartphone service on the island? Or is it pretty much non-existent?

We have verizon. We tried to use our cell once about 6 years ago and found that it wouldn't work. I believe that you need a special sim card for it. Some people rent cell phones at several locations in Aruba. We keep our phone on airplane mode when we are there. I see that you are from Midlothian, Va. So am I.

We have T-Mobile and it works great, 20 cents a minute for calls and free unlimited 3G and texts. Great coverage except for some of the off road east areas.
