Star concierge Roel

We were in the Garden Villa on the Star Sept 6 - 15. Roel was our concierge and he did a wonderful job. He came to our cabin just about every day to see if we needed anything and to see what time we would be getting off the ship so he could escort us off the ship.

Good to know!

Anyone know his email? I have a specific request I'd like to email him before our November cruise if at all possible.

His email is not listed on his card so can't help with that. I would do as suggested and contact pre-cruise concierge desk but your luck with them may or may not pan out. All of the requests that we made prior to the cruise (alcohol, pillows, soft drinks) were given to the pre cruise concierge but somehow didn't make it to the ship. None of this was really a big deal but it would have been nice to have the alcohol and the soft drinks in the suite when we arrived or at least showing up shortly after we arrived.

I just received word that Roel will be working the Star on my Jan. cruise. I have never been disappointed with any NCL concierge. Has anyone had Roel as their concierge recently?

Roel is terrific. Friendly, pleasant and extremely helpful when my elderly mother got sick and needed extra attention. Genuinely a nice man without the overworked vibe you often feel. I know they work incredibly hard but I hate feeling like I'm bothering them if I call. Do go through the pre-concierge desk for pre cruise requests. Mine didn't happen until I got on board and they looked up the emails.

For my specific request, I think I'll wait until we speak to Roel directly. It is not something the pre-concierge can deal with. (Relates to my mother who has dimentia and access for my brother to our villa (he is not staying in our room as he wanted his own bedroom, so he booked a cabin for just him with the intention of spending most of his time with all of us in the villa. I had posted a few months ago about where to put him in a 3 bedroom cabin where we really needed 4 bedrooms, so this is what we decided to do. More revenue for NCL, but my brother is not booked in a suite).

I already know this is a question that will bring up a lot of drama and debate on these boards regarding a non suite person (heaven forbid) getting access to and potentially getting suite perks, so I do NOT want to start a big debate here. I thought it may be easier to email Roel before we arrive to alleviate some of the awkwardness of our question/request. All we want is for my brother to be able to come up to the villa without making us bring him up every time, as the elevator requires key access. We are also *hoping* he can check in with us at the pier. The NCL person we booked with said he could, but I have read enough on here to know that is not necessarily true.

Again, without starting a debate, does anyone know if this is possible?

We always were allowed to board the ship as a family on previous cruises, even though our kids were not in our suite. That was mainly due to the fact that their cabins were under my credit card and some of my kids were still young. I'm not sure if we will be able to board together in January since my youngest is now in college but I will try. As for the perks, I wouldn't expect them to get to eat lunch in Cagney's every day, that's for sure.

Thanks for your feedback. We are not expecting Cagneys perks for my brother either. The reality is we probably won't be eating there anyway as we will be eating either on the villa veranda or in the villa dining area. :). We just hope that he can board and Debark with us and give his key access to our GV area. Not too much to ask, right? :)

Michelle,

I would suggest getting to the pier early. We were the first group to check in under priorty boarding and Roel was there waiting for us basically. At that point, he asked us if we had any requests. We got him to make a dinner reservation for Cagney's for that evening.

I don't think Roel or NCL is going to have a problem with getting a key card for your brother. It would probably just give access to the elevator but might also open the main cabin door. Roel's goal is make sure you have an enjoyable time on your cruise. And since you're in the Garden Villa, he'll make sure you are happy. He definitely doens't want you going to the hotel director just to get key card access. If the key card helps with that goal, score for everyone. Good luck!

Thanks Carrie! :). Two more questions. Was the other GV booked on your cruise? Does the GV still give one free Cagneys dinner? Just curious.

The other garden villa was booked on our cruise. And a caution, if a family books both of the garden villas, NCL will sometimes break the partition between the 2 living areas. They haven't done the best job with the partition and you will hear noises from the other living area. Just something to keep in mind. We weren't real happy about it but there was really nothing we could do about it. It appeared that they didn't put enough foam insulation between the ceiling and the panel and the floor and the panel. Or maybe didn't replace it fully when they closed the living areas again.

Not sure about the Garden Villa getting the Cagney's dinner but I know the hotel director sent us an invitation for a free dinner about halfway through the cruise. We did go to Cagney's. This invitation also included a bottle of wine.
