btke Posted October 3, 2015 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2015 We're looking for advice about whether to book a last minute cruise. We're considering Avalon Illumination Oct 25, Vienna to Amsterdam. Our worry is the water level and how much we can expect to be on the river, and how much on a bus. We could book bus tour much cheaper if that's what it would turn out to be - not really what we want. Our second chioce is Vantage Paris and Normandy, but that itinerary is slightly less appealing as our first river cruise.
Rare xpcdoojk Posted October 3, 2015 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2015 Spent a few hours in a plane in a seat next to a British travel agent way back in 2005 flying from Santiago to Lima. She said, show up in Portugal and book a river cruise, they are always needing to fill the ships and the prices are cheap. Have never taken that advice.... Who knows what the river levels will be in a few weeks, they can be low today and flood in a week. We booked this July for an end of season Avalon cruise it was a lot less than the same cruise next year. Will it be miserable or ok, weather and water level wise, who knows. Looking forward to a cruise in November. Could turn into a bus trip but you place your bet and the dice determine the winners. jc
