Royal Caribbean Explorer of the Seas - October 23 - Dubai to Singapore

Recommended Posts

Hello Well you're definitely not the only gay couple onboard but I don't imagine there will be very many.

It's looking highly unlikely that we will be attending the meet and mingle party since it's slated to be at something ridiculous o'clock in the morning !

Maybe see you in the R Bar which is where they normally schedule the LGBT meet.

Hope you sorted the visas out.

Hello Bruce and Sam - yes, we will be on the Dubai to Singapore cruise and then we are staying on the ship down to Fremantle - Australia. We arrive in Dubai on the 21st and look forward to meeting you guys on board.

We are staying at the Copthorne ,near Dubai Creek. We found that most of the hotels we looked at were quite expensive. We don't have any set plans while we are there but have kind of attempted a list of what we want to see. We arrive a little late on the 21st, so only really have a full day on the 22nd and the day we board the ship.

How about you guys?

"12 Things Not To Do In Dubai" on YouTube

"Dubai - the rules" on YouTube

According to these videos, even riding in a car with a member of the opposite sex whom you're not married to... is a crime.

I wasn't sure if wearing shorts was legal there... since visiting the UAE Embassy here was not allowed if you're wearing shorts.

We booked two separate twin beds at the hotel, of course.

We're kind of on the same cruise as you as well, except we get on in Singapore and off in Sydney.

We were in Dubai twice this year - have had no trouble in either the Sheraton Dubai Creek or the Manzil Downtown, which were both great places to stay, but then we didn't prance up and down the streets holding hands!

We too were worried a bit about shorts and wore convertible pants and had the zipped off legs in our pack, but didn't really have to use them at all.

I think as long as you are respectful they put up with tourists - just found the customs people were very business like and almost felt they resented you visiting, it's a very different way of life than here in Australia and you have to be aware of that.

The worse thing I could say is that it is very hot there and the sand gets Everywhere!

cheers, Rob

About the dress code on the cruise itself.... on formal nights.... is a tie absolutely required...? If so, we'll each need to go buy one. We have very formal (Versace, Prada, etc.) outfits.... but they are fashionable.... thus, a tie wouldn't really work very well with them. Thoughts?

Hi Bruce and Sam

We tend to wear a suit and tie on formal nights but by no means is a tie essential. Sounds like you'll both be looking smart anyway so whatever you're comfortable in will be just fine.

We fly out tomorrow so we'll see you both soon. Have a good journey.
